"We shan't play together again" BREAKING NEWS: "German rock band Scorpions to end career"
German rock band Scorpions to end career

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100124/ap_en_mu/eu_germany_scorpions

BERLIN – The German rock band Scorpions is bringing down the curtain on a career spanning more than four decades.

The band, known for its early 1990s hit "Wind of Change" among others, said on its Web site Sunday that "we agree we have reached the end of the road."

It said it would end its career with a final album — "Sting In The Tail," to be released in March — and a tour that will start in Germany in May and take it across the world "over the next few years."

Guitarist Rudolf Schenker founded the band in Hannover in 1965. Singer Klaus Meine joined a few years later. Both men are 61.

1. You know, I really love some of these bands still going into their 50s and 60s.
Scorpions, AC/DC (Brian Johnson is 62!), Aerosmith...even, yes I dare say Kiss.

And you know, I'll still pop in The Scorps' "World Wide Live" and crank some Big City Nights or some "Back in Black" and note how much better that is compared to the shit payola crap that's so popular on "rock" radio these days. Seriously, Nickelback. WTF?

2. I have the studio version of "Coast To Coast" on one of the mix CDs I keep in the car...
...I also have "The Zoo"...studio AND live versions...on a few other mix CDs.

Rolling Stone's recent "Decade's Best Songs And Albums" issue managed to squeeze "Radiohead" into far too many of the reviews...they were comparing everyone to Radiohead (except for Radiohead themselves, of course...they just gave them big, wet, sloppy kisses).

And I acknowledge the fact that Radiohead plays an important role in the lives of some people, and probably became the soundtrack to the last 10 years of some of them...

...I just wasn't one of them. No, I don't think "Kid A" is the best album released between 2000 and 2009. SOME people do, I guess. Then again, some people also like that Fall Out Boy EMO shit, too.

When I was growing up, I was somewhat like a cast member from the "Wayne's World" movies...not as nerdy, but definitely a headbanger and "classic rock" (plus prog) geek. Scorpions, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Kiss, UFO, Humble Pie, Foghat...I still listen to all of them to this very day.

:toast:

7. Kind of unfair for him to say, him being immortal and all. :)
Lemmy won't EVER retire.

And Bless Him for it. :)

12. Indeed.
Lemmy is just.....

Ahhhh, why risk insult trying to describe him with mere words. :)

He's just Lemmy.

And That's ALL That Need Be Said. :)

9. Rolling Stone had an excellent article on Lemmy in a recent issue
Lemmy won't quit...ever. That Motorhead song "Killed By Death" isn't a song...it's a manifesto.

5. I'm sorry, Radiohead sucks.
Just my opinion, but they're like the epitome of "bands you must like if you're of a roughly certain age"...seriously. I had a girlfriend a few years ago that LOVED Radiohead...and Weezer, and Guided By Voices and a bunch of other hipster shit (at least to me). It's awful. We agreed on a lot of music, but disagreed on an equal amount.

But then, I love a lot of artists and music that others find to be garbage. To each their own.

10. I went to Amazon when I posted my reply to you...

...and since I don't own "Kid A," I figured I'd listen to the 30-second clips of the whole album before making my comments, because

What if "Kid A" really WAS the single GREATEST album of the last decade and I was simply to ignorant to KNOW this?

Well, the good news, boys & girls, is that I'm not ignorant. At least when it comes to Radiohead.

I listened to EVERY clip and thought "Did Amazon fuck up and just post the same clip nine times? Why does it sound like one song played nine times instead of NINE DIFFERENT SONGS like it SHOULD?"

6. I Hope they make it up to the Pacific Northwest one last time.
One of my favorite bands of all time.

They have had a remarkable career and they are really nice guys too.

Very genuine, and very cool. :)

For them to go as long as they have is astounding.

Although this news is sad, I take it with a sad smile and admiration for what they have done.

41 years is simply a remarkable achievement, and even more remarkable is the quality of work they have put together that for the most part has been very consistent, and very good.

Klaus can still sing amazingly well.

All Good Things.....

Enjoy your retirement guys....

You've earned it.

But before you go, Take us Coast To Coast one more time. :)

Skorpione für immer!!!!!! Felsen mögen Sie einen Hurrikan!!!!!
