Snowy, the dog, and Simba, the cat, side by side, sunning!
It's 28 degrees outside and both Snowy and Simba have discovered the benefits of sunbathing.

1. What beauties, your Snowy and Simba!
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 12:57 PM by Heidi
The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger (on the right) sends his playful and warm regards, as does his ever-hungry brother, Barley.

Ginger, with sand on his nose after having graciously assisting the gardener.

Barley (yes, he always looks like this. He's ALWAYS HUNGRY, regardless of how much
my sister-in-law feeds him. And no, he does NOT HAVE WORMS.)

with her foster family that she was responding to the name, so we kept it.

4. Ginger and Barley are two of a three-kitten litter born to my mother-in-law's cat, Mins.
My mother-in-law chose the kittens name from a book: Ginger, Barley and Tabitha, without regard to gender or markings. So, although Ginger is neither female nor ginger-colored, he kept his name. The only other things he responds to as quickly as his own name are "ROOOOOOOOOAST BEAST!" "FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISH!" and "CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICKEN!"

11. There is only ONE!!!!
Barley is Ginger's brother/litter mate, but he lives across the street with my sister-in-law. (However, he's here birding around with Ginger much of the time. )

Hey, legendary woman! :*

2. Snowy came to live with us one month ago. Simba is 14 and lost his brother, Mouse
at the end of November when Mouse developed an ulcerous lesion in his mouth, probably cancer, and stopped eating.

When Snowy first came in the house, Simba asserted his dominance. Now Snowy tries to get Simba to play
with her by throwing her toy in the air and squeaking it. Simba gives her a look like, "you must be kidding" and ignores her.

7. One of these days I'll get it right. I have black rugs and light animals;
I had light rugs and a black dog in our other house.

I had to go buy a new vacuum to get up the fur and I already need to empty it after vacuuming the rug
three times!

10. I have a brazillion cats and two big white perpetually shedding dogs.
I've thought of vacuuming the animals instead of the rugs...but they resent it, for some reason. Oh well.
It's a small price to pay for beauty and love and cuddles.

12. But the twain never meet
Interesting how they avoid touching each other, even though cuddling would be warmer than lying out like that.

used to cuddle side by side. Give Simba some time!

16. The cat is probably thinking...
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 09:16 PM by A HERETIC I AM
"Dammit, I should have grabbed the spot closer to the window. That damn oaf of a doggy has a shadow that's getting bigger and blocking my sun!"

On edit to say...wait a tic...is this afternoon or morning?

If it's afternoon, my post stands.

If it's morning, the cat is thinking "Stupid doggy. He needs to move over so I'll have that sunbeam all to myself."

18. I like anything with cats in it. My cat sleeps in the sun every day, in the
south window. He wakes me at dawn, then eats some and waits til the sun is up enough, then sleeps all day on the floor in the sun.
I have to leave a light on my desk because when the sun goes down he starts to get cold and wants heat from a lightbulb.

21. Nothing cuter than creatures of different species curled up together!
It reminds me that we as humans can make things so complicated, and then you see dogs and cats (and other animals) just hanging out together enjoying life.

Well, Snowy is definitely not smiling in that first picture.

I am a dog person mostly since I have had more dogs than cats, but I like most animals.
