1. Yep, another favorite!
"I'm being marked down?!"
"I've been kidnapped by K-Mart!"

2. I'm building up my library now...I had most of these movies on VHS at one time
now, I'm doing the DVD building thing...it's actually frustrating

3. I may do the same when I'm employed again.
Although I ended up buying two copies of Galaxy Quest because I thought I had somehow inadvertently gotten an edited copy, where all the bad words were taken out. The second copy was exactly the same, too. I've since learned that all copies were released with Sigourney Weaver's "Well fuck that!" changed to "Well screw that!" and Tim Allen's "Oh shit!" changed to "Aw darn!" because they didn't think they could sell them in Wal-Mart :eyes:

But, the fans have turned that on its side by accepting it as part of the parody :D

Hey, did you know the same people that gave us Airplane! directed "Ruthless People"? :D

4. Are you collecting unemployment also at this time? I've been collecting since June
I just had to file for an extension, Kentauros and I don't see the job situation improving anytime soon at least in this area anyway...and I only meet people every day who are getting laid off.

On the other note, I did not know that the people who gave us Airplane directed Ruthless People, but that is laudable in itself....

5. Yeah, since May, but mine said I had 76 weeks' worth paid into it.
I had a pretty decent job before this, so I assume my employer paid plenty into it. He's a real nice guy, but the economy was causing our contracts to dry up or be put on hold indefinitely. However, I stay positive about it. This time of the year is the worst for trying to find work or getting any leads, mostly due to companies still getting their budgets worked out for next year. I anticipate better prospects in the new year, so I hope it spreads to where you are, too

As for Ruthless People, it was directed by the Zuckers and Abrahams, so a similar style to the humor without it being quite so constant and rapidfire :)

6. I can't keep collecting...hate to bring down a thread with a depressing subject
I had a job for exactly eight and a half years and they let me go when they brought new management in to "cut costs where they needed to be cut"

I believe I paid into unemployment since I've been working full-time since I was seventeen....I'm 34 now, and all I want to do is work full time and have a job with benefits...

I do hope your situation improves, though...I don't see anything happening here

7. Not knowing what you did before, have you thought of state or municipal employment?
I rarely seen anything in government jobs related to pipeline-design (mapping). If I had a better GIS background, I'd probably be employed again.

As for bringing this thread down, well, it's not like anyone else is commenting! :P

But I do hope you find something there, too. Just keep looking, networking and making contacts :)

8. Yes...I've looked into municipal employment opportunities...the experience
factor is out of my league, so to speak...they seem to want someone with either proficient with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint..etc and can type at least 45 wpm ( I can type the standard 32 wpm last time I tested myself ). There are others there as well...seems a bit intimidating to someone who has nothing but retail experience ( other experience as well ) for the past 10+ years :(

this is why I'm looking into schooling, possibly in the medical field ( I asked an online college to e-mail me details on certain titles and their expectations ) I know I can get funding for it...the Pel grant is available to me ( according to them ) that is a good thing, and will help a great deal

hey...are you familiar with Pel grants?

9. I know what you mean about gov jobs requiring experience
above and beyond what "normal" people would have. I think for many of those positions, it's not what you know, but who you know. Sometimes you just have to start from the ground up within their system in order to make those networking connections.

I don't know anything specific about Pell Grants. My UI sent me a letter about that, but I haven't really looked into it much. I would think any school finance office would know how to set you up with such a grant and guide you in either writing up the grant or just applying, if that's how it works. Here's the site UI gave me in their letter: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

There may be other folks here familiar with Pell Grants, too, and getting approved for one :)

21. Check Craigslist for Jobs As Well
Although all online job boards suck, you may find a gem there.

23. Thank you!
I keep forgetting about them and will bring up the page now.

I have also meant to thank you for "pushing" me to get networking. I still am not that good at it, but I do have an account with LinkedIn, so I need to research it some more.

:hi:

11. Lt. Bender: GIVE THE BAG TO BOZO, DROP THE GUN, AND PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR.
Earl Mott: Who said that?
Lt. Walters: This could very well be the stupidest person on the face of the earth. Perhaps we should shoot him.
Lt. Bender: IT'S THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Earl Mott: Really?
Lt. Bender: NO! WE'RE THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION!

Part 9 - with "Bozo" and the money hand-off :D
Ruthless People in 5 seconds

18. ANOTHER MOVIE I love!!!! I didn't think I would like it the first time I saw it
I was at my friends house and he asked "Hey, did you ever see Galaxy Quest"? Great movie...so many memorable scenes, so many funny scenes in that movie...a classic ( I never thought I would say that about a film with Tim Allen..not that I don't like Tim Allen but I never thought of him as a big-screen kind of guy ).

19. I don't like everything Tim Allen does,
but I don't have a problem with him as an actor. Have you ever seen the one he did called "Big Trouble"? It's really pretty funny. I think Zoey Deschanel is in it, too :)

28. Definitely an underrated movie
It was a great cast, too! Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub... I thought Time Allen and Sam Rockwell were great choices for the roles they played, too.

One of the funniest movies of the 80s. Surprising people have forgotten it so quickly.

25. I saw that in Spain in '86; the title was 'Por Favor, Maten a Mi Mujer!'
(Please- Kill my Wife!). The late Anita Morris was funny as DeVito's mistress.

"Oh my God. I've been abducted by Huey and Dewey."

Reinhold: "What is going on?"
Pullman: (shouts) "I'm robbing you!"

OMG, I love that movie so much!

My favorite part: Bette Midler losing weight through exercising to an 80s music montage. Classic!
