How can something as small as a cat take up so much room on a bed?
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 12:49 AM by skygazer
No matter how big the bed? I mean, my cat is large for a cat - about 14 or 15 pounds - but how can a 14 or 15 pound animal take up so much space in a queen size bed that I am left with a small corner?

It's one of life's mysteries.

edited to add obligatory pic -

3. hehehe..awesome picture
Hi,
Great picture of your cat lounging. I find it funny how they can do that and then shrink too. I have a uh...rather large one and she still can somehow fit in her little bed. She stretches out and sleeps between my legs in my bed.

Peace

4. I often wake up with back and neck pains from sleeping in an unnatural position
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 01:21 AM by Withywindle
'cause my little 10-lb tortie girl nudges me around in the night. She likes the CENTER.

My ex and I, when we lived together...had a very small bedroom, so we shared a twin bed like college students to have more floor space. On winter nights, the 14-lb cat and the 20-lb cat would both pile in. You can imagine the contortions.

6. Awwww! Maybe because their cuteness overflows everywhere

I've got an 18-pounder who sprawls perpendicular to my legs every single night. Very uncomfortable, but I love the big guy! :loveya:

15. Mine sleeps on my legs if it is not too hot, or too cold. Hot, he has
to lay without touching anything.
Cold, and he positions with his back to my chest, then falls back onto my chest and sleeps there, with his back against my chest.
Until last year, I had two. One on each side of me. They would fight for the preferred side.

12. It's because cats have the ability to expand
to approximately the size of a water buffalo when occupying a bed. This expansion does not occur until the lights are out and your eyes are closed, however. This way they can maintain the false illusion of being small and compact and unable to occupy an entire king-size bed.

20. I would LOVE to share a bed with just one cat
however I have 8. I'm lucky if I can eke out a little breathing room in the upper 1/10th of the right side of the bed.

Oh, and it's not just the room they take up. It's the snoring, the occasional nocturnal squabbles, and the hunting of play mice under the covers. No wonder I'm an insomniac.

25. my cat must be a weird one
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 09:39 AM by charlie and algernon
she either curls up next to my feet or curls up next to my pillow, but either way I have enough space on the bed that I have no idea she's there till I wake up. Usually it's to hit the snooze button in the morning and I find the cat in my way. She's a 16 pounder, but she finds a way to make herself quite small when she wants to. Her favorite hiding spot is under the bed and it's quite something to see her flatten herself and squeeze under the bed, lol.

26. Cat trivia fact
They don't have attached collarbones like most other vertebrates. What does this mean in practical terms? It means that a cat can squeeze itself through very small spaces. If the cat's head can get through it, then so can the rest of the cat.

Also, they can teleport. Ever play D&D? Remember the Blink Dogs? Cats can do that. Trufax.
