Julie & Julia

Watched that last night. Did anybody else find it anticlimactic when Julia Child said she didn't care for Julia? Kind shot the whole film and Julie's whole project right out of the sky.

1. Thankfully I'd already known that. But when I found out, I was sorely disappointed.

I have no idea why she didn't like Julie, either. What Julie did seemed so utterly and totally like something that Julia would have applauded and celebrated.

5. I read that Julia was less-than-supportive of Julie's project because that "wasn't the point" of

"Mastering the Art of French Cooking." It wasn't something to plod through day by day and she thought it was more of a stunt than a celebration of cooking. I tend to agree with her.

6. Yeah I think so, it was a gimmick.

Like if I said I was going to walk across the United States backwards, then I did it and blogged about it, I'd probably be able to pick up a book deal somewhere.

7. yeah, I thought so at first, but I really had a lot more respect for Julie when

she was done with the project - it really did seem like therapy for her, and a way to realize her vision of being a writer.


I could see why Child might not see it as a homage, but I really think it was.



(apologies for getting on ya about Harry Potter, I just seem to have too much fondness for it.)

8. Oh no, not necessary.

I should probably give the books a shot. And despite my protestation, that movie wasn't that bad. The post was kind of a joke, it's why I intentionally got all the names wrong. I like any sci-fi/fantasy and I have seen far worse than the Half Blood Prince. My wife really got me on that rant when she asked half way through the movie, "Why do we care about these people?". The thing that really got me was the lack of development for Voldemort, yeah they explained his schooling, but they didn't really portray the threat very well in that film, I thought. The Helena Bonham Carter gang running around was a little too jokey for my taste.

10. the books do a better job with the backstory...

there's a lot more of it there than they had time for in the movie, and I suspect there will be more exposition in the next movie.

2. Never saw it. But did Julia say that?

4. In a round about way.

They didn't really explore it in the movie. When Julie got all famous a reporter asked her if she knew that Julia Child's reaction was that she wasn't showing respect or something.
