I'm soon to be 57 and want to retire in Scotland or Ireland
around age 62. From everything I'm reading unless I have a job I can not immigrate. I'll have enough money to buy a small house and car as well as receive a pension and US social security. My living will be modest but do-able. Does anyone know any way around this job requirement? I'm a nurse but I do not want to work much longer as I'm completely burned out. I'm still searching for a way to do this but I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

1. Do you know anyone there?
You might be able to get someone to sponsor you.

my best friend here is a UK citizen who has been in the US with a permanent green card for some 35 years. I guess I could work something out with him. He was my boyfriend for several years, 7 years ago, but now we're just best friends. He is also single.

2. Can you collect Social Security if you're no longer a US resident?
There used to be a regulation that prohibited that. Has that changed?

3. That was my question...
there is a workaround (and only one that I know of. Dublin has gone to great lengths to prevent people from doing precisely what the OP intends to...they only want young able-bodies.) to emigrate to Ireland but I know that takes away Soc. Sec. so I wasn't suggesting it.
