That creepy guy that feeds the squirrels in his boxers that lives down the road from you... he thinks you are hot!

That's about the same age difference. So, why you got that queasy look on your face?

12. I guess that makes us both Team Edward! Jacob is a cutie, but Robert Pattinson is of legal age (23)
Edward is technically over a hundred years old, so in the series he is of legal age and then some. The actor who portrays him is 23. Plus I think for most of us older-than-teenage fangirls and fanmoms the whole thing is a harmless fantasy, while I am not so sure about the creepy old dudes who are into the Olsen twin types.

5. This reminds me of the ubiquitous comments about the Olsen twins...
or whatever other starlets... salivating over the day that the girls would be of legal age.

Goodness knows why so many aging men would wonder such a thing. I wonder if those moms make similar creepy-as-fuck comments. Hmmmm...

11. You're not kidding!
A bunch of sites ran "Olsen Twins Countdowns" prior to their 18th birthday. Yikes. And it doesn't help that Rolling Stone featured them on the cover when they were 17 with the tagline "America's Favorite Fantasy."

Goodness knows why so many aging men would wonder such a thing.

I suspect that, in many cases, it's not purely a matter of wanting the woman who's eighteen; it's also a matter of not wanting to be 50, balding, and paunchy, and by casting the young woman as the love interest in one's fictionalized autobiography, it enables the protagonist to reinvent himself as someone equally young.

IMO Olympia Dukakis said it right in Moonstruck, when she wondered aloud why men "chase girls." She decided that it's "because they fear death."

Still creepy, though.

14. Eeew, I didn't know there were websites about it.
I wonder if there were any for the other actresses... Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Portman, Alyssa Milano, etc.

17. Didn't even see your response
when I posted below about Natalie Portman...

And, Alyssa Milano is like 40, so I don't think there would be websites that counted down to her being 18 in the 80s? The internets were still in their infancy back then.

18. There has also been a countdown for Emma Watson
who acts the role of Hermione in the Harry Potter movies.

I don't know how old she is so I don't know if the countdown is still going on or not. But the fan boys are definitely still out there lusting after her, and many of those fan "boys" are well into middle age.

13. Oh noooooo...that was all about the money
collectively, the Olsen twins were billionaires.
The idea of those repulsive sites was to marry one quick and get your hands on some.

19. So true
A posting on io9.com a few days ago pointed out that the Edward/Bella relationship has some of the earmarks of emotional abuse. Someone went on to comment that if it had been Stephen Meyer and not Stephanie Meyer who wrote those books feminists would be falling all over themselves to denounce it and parents wouldn't let their daughters anywhere near it.

But little Janie's reading, and that's the important thing, right?

20. Somebody found a pretext to complain, but the real problem is
Edited on Sat Dec-12-09 12:07 AM by Boojatta
clearly that the author of the "if these were 40 year old men..." words is confident of not being the object of attention of the three women on the right-hand side of the photo.

Here's a comparison that will seem to be an insult to the women. Suppose a man owns three dogs. Wouldn't he want them to be enthusiastic when he arrives home? If the dogs are enthusiastic, then is the man being unacceptably objectified by the dogs? After all, dogs don't particularly care about the intelligence of their owners. You could say that they want trophy owners. Nevertheless, the typical dog owner doesn't want to be merely grudgingly tolerated by the dogs.

Now, my intention in giving that comparison isn't to insult the women, but merely to point out that nobody is even demanding that the man respect the women. He merely has to accept enthusiasm. However, if he's confident that women couldn't possibly be enthusiastic about him, then the display of enthusiasm becomes a problem.

21. what about a 22 year old woman screaming for a 17 year old guy?
?w=390&h=327

Hey now... 17 is the age of consent, and trust me, Taylor Lautner would consent to me.
