Was Jim Stafford ever cool?
...in a Ray Stevens sort of way?

In case you don't know the difference between them:

There, that should clear up any confusion.

And by the way, I don't know if Jim Stafford was ever cool, but he's like 100 times cooler than Ray Stevens ever was. It's like comparing The Munsters with The Addams Family. The answer is clear!

1. Jim Stafford was, is and ever shall be cool
His summer replacement TV show was one of the shortest, but best variety shows ever. A good mixture of music, comedy, and guest stars all revolving around a host who knew precisely how seriously he should take himself. I don't know if I'll ever figure out why the show wasn't picked up; maybe it was considered too derivative of the Carol Burnett Show, but considering the imitative nature of about 95% of television, this seems an odd place to draw a line.

2. He was a good and reliable Hee Haw guest
that part about knowing how seriously to take himself is a good observation! :hi:

3. I thought that was Tennessee Ernie Ford on the left
Now which one is Stafford and which one is Stevens? And are you insinuating that the Munsters were cooler than the Addams Family?

6. Cool
I saw him on the Smothers Brothers show when they did it again in the 80s and he was playing this guitar piece. The spotlight kept shrinking moving it toward his "fingering" hand. He kept trying to fit in too and then in only showed his hand. He flicked the string with his middle finger and kept it up. It was great.

7. He had a TV show when I was a kid that was pretty good, as I recall
Not sure how or why I recall that, but I do.

8. Saw him play at NHIS befor a race
Funny, good music for the crowd, happy to be there. I beleive he played on the same show as Mr. Bill Monroe, who did a letter-perfect set at 10:30 AM. Unlike a couple of the other "stars" who appeared at other races, half in the bag, or out of tune, or plain dreadful.
