1. Amazing how far they have come...from this
Edited on Tue Nov-17-09 10:16 PM by AsahinaKimi

These of course did not come with instructions, nor any warning labels. They were also more sharp then they make today. You know, today's paper cutters are like children's scissors in comparison.

4. I always thought that those things were suspiciously big enough to serve as a guillotine for...
small children.

5. That type of paper cutter is actually called a
guillotine paper cutter. I've never found them to be all that accurate. The absolute best is an X-Acto blade and a metal ruler :)

8. No, the absolute best is a surgical scalpel and a metal ruler.
I use disposable surgical scalpels, though, so that I can just toss the whole thing when the blade becomes dull. :hi:

9. Decades ago, I bought surplus x-acto knock-off blades.
1000 for something like $20. They all had this little plastic piece molded on the base, so I spent a couple of hours popping them off with pliers and then had enough blades that I could share them to friends and even one of my instructors (I gave her a little film can of 100 :)) I still have a few hundred since I don't use them much anymore. To keep them from rusting, I sprayed some machine oil into the plastic bulk-film can they are in and it's worked for well over 20 years :D

The site I bought them from is still around and I know I showed it to CMW, so you may know of it now: American Science & Surplus :hi:

10. CMW probably had very good reasons for not sharing that link with me.
I'm a _freak_ for places like American Science & Surplus! :D

Hiya, kentauros! :pals:

so you can both freak over it at the same time

He's also phenomenal at the 3D art. I need to get back to his PM sometime tonight...

for the one he sent me :D

What time is it there, anyway?
(saving me from looking it up in my handy-dandy Pocket Ref with the minuscule fonts...)

16. I have seen a real metric clock
so no, it's not metric time :P

Also, don't they all use 24-hour clocks over there? ;)

You're seven hours ahead. Not nearly as bad as the 19 hours ahead for my gf in NZ, so, no contest there

17. Most official stuff is according to the 24h clock
but we have a regular clock in the kitchen. I used to get sooooo confused by the 24-hour clock, but I'm better now. :P
