1. My dear Jeff In Milwaukee...
Remember?

Once upon a time, you went out...

With her mother.

She'll be fine! You will be too...you raised her right, and she's ready.

Relax!

3. You see...that's the problem
I distinctly recall being a horny teenaged boy. And now some modern-day version of me is out with my daughter.

7. Dude. It has to be
Nature's revenge for our teenage horny machinations.
I too, had two beautiful daughters. They went out with guys even though I convinced them that they always lie.

Observe them together. The boys don't stand a chance against the teenage girl mafia. They are just hopeless pawns.

18. Now if she were dating the teenaged version of Al Franken, I'd feel better
Check that. Nope. I wouldn't.

I always sort of wished she'd wait till after I'm dead to start dating.

17. nah.
i'm more afraid of meeting a swordsman like Roronoa Zoro than any of Mifune-dono's characters....

Then again, I'd rather not run into ANY of the "Monster" Trio.... (Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro)

oh well, back to translating...

36. OK
i'll give you that one Asahina-san. But, the best swordman of the santouryu style is Roronoa Zoro... ok, he's the ONLY one that uses the Three Sword Style... but that's just splitting hairs at this point.

And no, if you dad was Zatoichi, it wouldn't scare me either. Sometimes the rose is worth the thorns....

42. Funny thing ...

My daughter, when she was 15, *asked* me to send that to very thing to a guy she'd dated a couple times. She e-mailed me the text and gave me his e-mail address.

So, I did.

He wrote me back two days later. I've saved the e-mail and will always treasure it.

"I am very sorry, sir. I told <daughter's name> I was sorry. I really mean it. I am sorry. I promise I will never do that again."

I never got an explanation of what "that" meant. Given the circumstances, I didn't feel I needed it. Daughter knew how to take care of things, which is to say she took care of the situation herself and had me act as backup. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

21. I heard a story once about Charles Barkley...
He would meet the young man at the door and would pull out a shotgun shell and a Sharpie. Ask the boy his name, then write it on the shotgun shell.

Personally, just seeing Sir Charles in the flesh would have been intimidating enough for me.

16. All will be well
Mine's 41, and a boy, but I know it's scary for you. Relax. How exciting for her, a first date! Many more ahead, so keep the communication lines open, cross your fingers, love her like crazy (I know you do), and everything will be all right. Bound to have some stumbles, but it is all part of the process.

33. My dad had the habit of wearing
his Colt 45 (nickel plated) revolver around the house. Some guys come home and put on slippers, he'd strap on his gun.

One of my sister's dates thought it would be funny to come up to the window with a scary mask to frighten her. He caught sight of my dad walking through the dining room with his evening snack, packing heat, and decided it would be prudent not only to leave, but to never call my sister again.

Coincidentally, she was the last of us to leave home - didn't leave until she was married at 29.
