I bought a 2010 Honda Civic EX sedan today
Here's what it looks like:

I'll see about getting pics of mine up tomorrow.

It is the gasoline only model and it gets 26 mpg in town and 34 on the highway which is where I do most of my driving. It's got power windows, locks and mirrors; cruise control, air conditioning, power sunroof, radio and cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, automatic transmission, and a spacious trunk for a car that size. I was wondering about the space in the cabin. I'm 5'10" and the front seats have more than enough leg room for me. And with the driver's seat adjusted for my height I could sit in the seat behind it and still have enough room. I was also worried about it possibly being under-powered so I took it out to the highway for my test drive to see how it would do getting on the interstate. It's no powerhouse, but it has sufficient power to do what I want it to do. The ride is comfortable and the car handles well.

This is the kind of car I need since I drive 70 miles a day through the week. MSRP was $20,965. I gave $18,900 for it. I think I got a good deal. They are going to detail it for me tomorrow while I'm signing the paperwork. I'll have it by tomorrow evening.

4. Man , I thought Civics were 13000 dollar cars.....
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 07:56 PM by UndertheOcean
From my experience with a 92 civic I fell in love with the brand , and would like to get my hands on a new one . Only problem is my credit score is awful so it will take me a few years to save up for one.

Congratulations by the way !

I can't imagine having to drive 70 miles a day !

Yeah, I drive 35 miles one way to work. Then I hop in a semi and run 412 miles. It's a good thing I like to drive. :)

11. Depends on the model.
Yeah, you can get the Civic DX for around $15k. For that, you get...well sort of a car. Four wheels and an engine. The EX that Tobin bought starts around $19k but has things like a/c, moonroof, power locks/windows, nicer interior, an actual stereo...you see where I'm going.

7. I was also looking at Nissan, but it was their mid size pick-up, the Frontier
I really liked that truck and I have owned small trucks for the past 13 years, but I couldn't justify the cost of operating it. The Civic gets twice the gas mileage. It would be nice at times to have that four wheel drive, but I think I'll be able to live without it.

8. Civic is the best. From the east to the west, Honda is the best.
Civic is 13k$ for the stripped model. Auto EX is top of the line. And worth it. Every option and then some.
If you drive moderate you will get much better than 26 34. I always do.
I have the 2 door as it is hella cool and much nicer. But it's the same car.
Get an extended warranty if you want from the dealer, but you don't really need it. DO NOT get one of those fly by night advertised on tv late at night after market warranties. Those are total rip offs.
I would recommend you use 89 gas. And only from a known good station. It will help keep that motor in good condition.
87 is not enough octane and 91 (California numbers) is too much.
You might also consider the monogrammed matching floor mats (Civic name on them, not yours) and the trunk pan, just a big tray to keep the trunk tidy.
Follow their break in advice. First 500 varied speed no more than 50? Or whatever they say.
Congrats.

9. I'm sure you'll love it... but ask for "no advertising" if it's not too late.
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 08:48 PM by gmoney
Wondering... why are they "detailing" a new car?

OH, you might ask them NOT to put all the advertising crap on the back of the car... THAT may be the "detailing" they're doing... painting or stickering the dealer name on the trunk lid, and putting some giant license plate frame on it. But DO ask them to remove the sticker from the window... they use some crazy adhesive on those things sometimes!

12. In California the stickers are illegal. So they put a license plate frame on
them. Usually, I ask that they don't, but they do it anyway, so I take them off, and give them back to them.
No sense in wasting their advertising, or in wasting plastic.
I know in the other states they put those stickers.
Blah.

18. The Ford Focus is also a very good car it is a Consumer Reports
"Best Buy" it gets about the same millage and it is made in Michigan (15% + unemployment). The Civic is a nice car, just saying don't complain about the unemployment rate.

33. It also has no resale. Unless you're planning on driving until the wheels fall off* you're lighting
money on fire buying one. There are some great, reliable domestics out there. The Focus isn't one of them, although it's a good deal better than it was.

FWIW, the OP lives in Ohio, where Honda is a big employer. Which is why he got a discount on his Civic.

*in good news, Ford apparently fixed that. Yes, that was actually a problem with previous years of the Focus, the wheels falling off at speed. :scared:

36. How about the Lexus gas pedals sticking to the floor
Edited on Mon Oct-26-09 11:11 PM by doc03
and in addition to that when the gas pedal sticks to the floor the car looses the brake power assist and you have to hold the shut off button 3 seconds to kill the motor, that's some great engineering, they should be called death panels. I don't think the wheels came off of the Focus, that was the Escort and many years ago. The Focus has consistently been very reliable hence the Consumer Reports Recommendation. The Japanese vehicles have a greater resale value because American companies were lacking in quality a few years ago. Many American cars are just as good or even better than many foreign cars today. Why do hate American companies, Unions and workers?

37. I wouldn't buy a Lexus either.

For one thing, I can't see paying extra for a Toyota with leather interior when I don't want leather interior anyhow. ;) For another they don't make a model that meets my needs. Subaru does, so I bought one. The nice thing about Subies is that they're notorious for lasting 300K miles on routine maintainance. The only domestics I know that do that on a regular basis are farm trucks or fleet car land yachts, and I'm easily thirty years too young to be caught dead in a CrownVic.

While I don't doubt that the Escorts had a problem with the wheels falling off (those cars had most every problem, on the upside we can thank them for the lemon law...) the Focus did have a recall for it as well.

I don't hate American companies, unions or workers. I just can't afford to drive a shit car to make a political statement. Sorry.

42. Subaru, let me tell you about my Subaru
The engine went out at 109,000 miles so I took it to the shop to see about having it rebuilt. Luckily I found an honest man, he called me back to look at the car's underside while he had it on the lift. He showed me where the frame was nearly rusted through and said I would be wasting my money fixing it. That was in 2002, I sold the car for $50 bucks and bought a used 1999 Mercury Tracer (Escort) with 29,000 miles on it. In seven years the only major repair I have made was around $350 to fix the AC. Today it turned over 137,000 miles and still runs great. The Tracer was made in Wayne Michigan by Americans and the profits went to an American company not to some entity across the pond.

24. The 2010 model has chrome stripes on the bottom too....
If one cn afford a hybrid, the Fusion is the one to get. But if you do more highway driving, hybrids are a waste (my Focus does ~40 but guzzles more in city conditions - but at net 31.4MPG on average, to pay $10k more for a hybrid -- I would NEVER make up the difference in cost in terms of gasoline use and miles driven...)

It was ASSEMBLED in America by people who usually don't last more than 5 years on the line at crappy wages with NO job security.

Ford is junk. I have had enough Fords to never want one again. I wouldn't take one if you gave one to me. I wouldn't take a Ford if you put a gun to my head and said take it.
In fact, last year someone did give a Ford to me and I sold that stupid thing as fast as I could.
Would it kill the "americans" to ever make a better car than the Ford or the GM or the Chrysler?
Yes, I guess so, as they have not done it for about 40 years or so.
