Clean Your Own Crap
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 07:58 AM by erpowers
The MSNBC website is reporting that a 19 year old Georgetown student has put in an ad for a personal assistant. For me it is stupid that a college student wants a personal assistant. However it gets worse when the details of what he wants his personal assistant to do is revealed. The student identified as Charley Cooper wants a personal assistant to do such tasks as "organizing his closet, dropping him off and picking him up from work, scheduling haircuts, putting gas in the car and taking it in for service, managing his electronic accounts and doing laundry". In addition, he plans to email his worker by 9:00 am to give the worker a detailed list of tasks to be completed preferrable by the end of the day, with certain tasks bolded in order to show they must be completed by the end of the day.

If one were not able to tell that Cooper was a spoiled rich kid by looking at the ad, his Facebook picture should most likely prove that fact. According to the MSNBC website Cooper has a Facebook account in which his picture shows him holding a champagne flute.

I understand some people may say this kid is just smart and has found a new way to free up his time. I do not see it that way. There is no need for this kid to have a personal assistant in college. I get that the kid has a part-time job and classes, but I still do not believe he needs a personal assistant. Most of these things are things that he can do on his own, many college students do it every year.

5. If I could afford a personal assistant to do all that crap, I'd get one, too.
Which doesn't mean that Cooper isn't an obnoxious little turd. I'm sure he is. But not having to deal with the minutiae of everyday life would be nice for a change.

8. Does anyone care about one of his reasons? "Cooper said he decided
to post the help-wanted ad after a family member had a cancer diagnosis and began to make arrangements for treatment..."

Hey, I'm pathological about doing everything myself, to the point of "oh, that costs too much and I can make it myself." But, then you get a backlog of projects and no free time. Bravo to Cooper, he created a job opportunity. It's all good, as long as he does his own classwork.

11. Two majors, one minor, part time job, and a family member diagnosed with cancer...
More details on this guy from the article posted by the OP:

He lives in the dorms and hasn't declared a major but is planning to double-major in finance and management, perhaps with a minor in Spanish. His Linked-In profile says he is considering jobs in finance, entertainment or both. In the spring, he got a part-time job in the D.C. offices of a financial services company that he didn't want to identify, where he works as an assistant and manages a team of interns.

Cooper said he decided to post the help-wanted ad after a family member had a cancer diagnosis and began to make arrangements for treatment at Georgetown University Hospital. Cooper says he hopes to start interviews in a few days, after the craziness of midterms has passed. "I know that if I didn't already have a job, I would definitely be interested in a job that pays 10 to 12 dollars per hour and is flexible in terms of hours," he said.

...........

Sure it's weird, but it's not like he's making fraternity pledges do his laundry for free or plagerizing for an A to make school easier for him. If he pays on time and treats his assistant with respect, does it really matter?
