My two beautiful boys crossed the rainbow bridge this afternoon.
It was time due to their declining health and increasing dementia. Who knew cats could get dementia? They went peacefully and together, the way they came into the world 14 years ago.

RIP my sweet boys.

2. My dear Catshrink...
Safe passage to your two beautiful boys...

They will be together forever...

And in your heart forever as well...

Be gentle with yourself during this time of excruciating grief...

Your sorrow will pass and then you will remember all the joyful times.

They've always been together -- they were best buds since the day they were born. They slept together and groomed each other.

Thanks... :grouphug:

65. I have a 15 year old dog with dementia
He tends to bark at odd hours and is inconsolable.

It is a very haunting lonely bark - not like the "I need attention" or the "get off my lawn" barks.

The vet prescribed anti-depressants and they seem to help

He is still lucid, affectionate and cantankerous most of the time thankfully

80. Sounds familiar..
I gave one of them Elavil, when he let me. He wasnt' fooled by pill pockets and fought me every time. If it wasn't scratching to avoid opening his mouth, it was refusing to swallow even with throat stroking. Near the end it was too much for both of us. Dogs are much easier to pill!

Good luck with your pup!

It's tough but there comes a time when everyone's quality of life sucks. The lack of sleep from the nightime howling was stressing me out to the point it was interferring with my job. I will miss them terribly once the shock wears off.

It's extra hard to lose both of them at once, but at least you won't have to witness one of them mourning for the other, and they can take that great journey together. Most of us have to die alone. It's a blessing for them that they didn't.

43. I love tabbies!
The vet and I talked today -- I told her I thought everyone should have a big fat tabby cat once in their life. There's something about them that is just marvelously wonderful, goofy, and love-buggy. I loved rubby his brother's fat tummy. The one you mentioned wouldn't stand for it. They actually were nearly identical except for markings on their paws.

It's so quiet this morning - and empty! One of my pups is looking for the big cats. I haven't seen my two "little" cats yet today. The dearly departed were 20 & 25 pounds at their peaks -- the "little" ones are about 10 pounds and look scrawny, even though they are very healthy.

It will be a long adjustment.

it made it harder but I just couldn't see one of them without the other and they were equally ill.

I've had to do it before too. Each of them is so different and wonderful it's always hard to let them go.

94. The best!
It's amazing how few people have heard of kittie dementia. I would get so angry at him for crying all night because I needed my rest. He couldn't help it and I knew that and made it worse. It got to be a vicious cycle -- the meds helped when I could get them down him. Our quality of life suffered.

I can imagine a place where all our kitties are hanging out, being cats, and waiting.

95. I'm glad they'll have distinguished company!
They'll also see the two girl kitties that mothered them when I first brought them home. Each of the girls claimed one of the boys. They were adorable together.

 for all our critters.

I lost one of mine on September 30 to cancer. I know how heartbreaking it is, they are family. They leave a cat-shaped hole in your life.

96. So sorry for your loss!
You're right, there is a big hole in my life and heart right now. And a big empty spot on "their" chair. One of the other cats tentatively started to claim it this afternoon but thought against it -- for now.

Peace be with you.

We had our beautiful 15 y.o. Sheltie, Lady, euthanised just a couple of months ago. I tell my wife she's running through a field somewhere and eating mounds of french fries and bacon. It makes us both smile.

All the good things to eat and smell. For Sam it would be Sun Chips Harvest Cheddar. Wrigley liked milk but it made him sick.

I'm sorry for your loss also.

88. My condolences.
You did good by letting them cross side by side. Born together, spend a life together as inseparable friends, let them end their journey together.

It was the right thing to do.

101. It was a conspiracy, I tell ya!
Back in the 60s some fascist socialist commie brownshirted Obama thugs manipulated their mom's mom's mom's mom's mom's mom's genes so that they would get sick together. Their mom's name was Kiwi and her human mom was from Australia. There's the proof.

Hey, makes more sense than an Orly motion, eh?

...you gotta read the latest filing in the OC case.

Here is a hint of what it is like: Orly is described as hot and wet in this person's declaration.

Check it out:

It's good, in a way, that they went together. I think my Jessie is starting dementia. We've lost so many here on DU lately. I'm so sorry you had to go through this.

104. There has been much loss.
We all love our furbabies and it's so hard when they go.

Is Jessie a cat? Ask your vet for Elavil (generic amitriptyline 10mg). I hope your Jessie can handle Pill Pockets - it would make it much easier for both of you. The meds did help calm him down at night but I couldn't get them down him after a while without a horrible fight.

Good luck!

105. Yes, she's a cat.
A Norwegian Forest Cat. She's maybe 13 year old (I adopted her from a shelter). She's on steroid daily for skin allergies (opening up wounds on her back and stomach). I use a pill pusher on her now, since nothing else works. I'm hoping she lives a long and happy life. I feel for you for losing your fur babies, and I hope the little ones will be okay.

107. Sherekan is there...I lost her this summer after 20 great years.

Here she is on her heating pad, not feeling too good :( She was prone to mournful meows, too. I never thought about dementia but I bet she was suffering from it.

I'm so sorry about your boys. They had a wonderful life and you did the right thing.
