3. Craigslist has always worked for me!
I've found very nice houses and apartments to rent in both colorado and Mississippi via CL. You can search under price range, if it's pet-friendly, and also anything on your particular housing wish list (i.e., if it has a garage, a yard, a dog door, a horse barn, etc.).

4. New York City.
All progressive, intelligent, decent human beings - especially the young ones - need to live in New York City at least once.

11. I found it to be a horrible place to live...
...granted the weather was good, but I sure felt claustrophobic there.

If you're in California and feel claustrophobic that's well, not a good thing.

It's much better in the wilds of New Jersey, although I'm not encouraging people to move here, because it's best as a private secret.

It looks like our Democratic governor, although in a tough spot, has a great chance to pull it out. I'm going to vote for him as soon a my absentee ballot arrives.

Democratic Senators, a largely Democratic congressional delegation, a Democratic legislature, the culture of two great cities, wonderful forests and oodles of history, great libraries, great universities, great public schools, what's not to love?

San Diego, by contrast, was a hell hole. When I lived there, my congressman was Duke Cunningham. I was so embarrassed, and I thought he'd never be brought down. :fistbump:

My congressman now is Rush Holt!

:bounce:

12. there's something you never see
"San Diego" and "Hell hole" in the same sentence.

Did you actually live IN San Diego, or one of those places like Bonita?

17. I lived in Mira Mesa, then La Jolla.
I confess that there were things I liked. We didn't have children then - thank god because the schools, from what I heard, suck, - and either at dawn or are at sunset, sometimes both - my wife and I would run between Torrey Pines Beach and the North End of Del Mar.

That was quite nice, quite beautiful.

My wife's uncle lived in Rancho Santa Fe, behind the Tortilla Curtain gates, with all those poor laborers standing outside hoping for a crumb of work, and he thought the schools sucked for his kids. He had to pull them out, of Torrey Pines high school.

I hated all the bulldozers, the traffic on 5 stretching all the way from Oceanside to Chula Vista; I hated how many people hated Mexicans, even though they were living on land stolen from Mexico at the point of a gun. I hated the "light up the border" creeps in their stupid SUV's. I hated that there were guys living in the Canyons who were despised by the people who drew them there in the first place to avoid paying a decent wage.

I hated Duke Cunningham, ignorant freak.

I hated the ubitiquous real estate mentality, the endless stream of real estate agents all looking for a fast buck, and the hype, hype, hype, hype of the biotech scams running everywhere.

But I did get to do some good science there, in spite of it all, and Doctor Suess's library never fell on my head.

So it's not quite Brownsville Texas, I guess, but it's no New Jersey.

16. I've heard it was rather overrated from people who've been there.
But never having been there myself, I'll reserve judgment. I know I'd prefer it over any cold weather climate.

Easy choice. I hope and pray to retire there. Absolutely beautiful. Given your avatar, you know it too.
