The rest of the band has bravely carried on through the centuries since.

Neither were the Thompson Twins.

45. They sold out with the synths and drum machines, but not with endorsement deals...
...so I salute them for that.

Although I know that by posting this I am inviting someone to reply with a link to a ZZ Top Endorsement deal.

I don't care, I love 'em. I hated the brittle computer POP crap they cranked out in their post-Eliminator success, but what the hell. Bands play evey beer-and-piss smelling dive in the great 48 for the chance to make it. They made it. Their songs became less "authentic." But part of paying one's dues is that EVENTUALLY, the payments result in a dividend.

I have nothing bad to say about the band at all. Nothing.

Billy Talen - River Below

Rejected...since day one
My name is...bastard son
I've been damned...so many times I've lost count
Blue collar...working man
Devises...master plan
Bi-polar...with a mental side arm

I'm sick and I'm twisted
I'm broken you can't fix it
Don't make me, cause I'll do it
Red button and we'll all go

Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
They'll think I'm insane, but you'll all know my name!
Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
I'll take all the blame, the front page and the fame!

Contraption...made up of
Nuts and bolts...creates the
New monster...to burn your family tree down!
Tick-tocking...times up now
Split second...the world frowns
Lonely heart...never loved nobody!

I'm sick and I'm twisted
I'm broken an' you can't fix it
Don't make me, cause I'll do it
Red button and we'll all go

Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
They'll think I'm insane but you'll all know my name!
Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
I'll take all the blame, the front page and the fame!

I'll take all the blame
The front page and the fame
INTO THE RIVER BELOW
INTO THE RIVER BELOW
INTO THE RIVER BELOW
INTO THE RIVER BELOW

Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
They'll think I'm insane but you'll all know my name!
Into the river below...I'm running from the inferno...
I'll take all the blame, the front page and the fame!

Yeah I'll take all the blame
The front page and the fame
But you'll all know my name
And they'll think I'm insane
But you'll all know my name
But they'll think I'm insane

55. Nah, the Ramone name was totally a stage name. A tribute to the Beatles actually....
You may notice that the stage "uniform" of the Ramones - Leather jackets, Levis and t-shirts - was the same as that worn by the Beatles in their Hamburg & Cavern Club days. Back then, the Beatles also gave themselves stage names. Paul used the name "Paul Ramone".

50. I love that...
...as I was growing up, I wasn't the world's biggest fans of rednecks. As a Massachusetts native, I didn't run into a lot of them.

My two Ronnie stories are:

1). Remember "Oui" magazine? Hefner bought the American rights in the 70s from French skin mag "Lui." They had a profile on Skynyrd. They had a scenario of Ronnie and Gary Rossington in a bar, looking at a "hippie" and his wife or girlfriend, with Ronnie telling Gary "You could TAKE him."

I personally feel that any man who sets his sights on another man's wife or girlfriend is a chickenshit motherfucker...but that's how Ronnie and Gary rolled, and it was a joke to them, but it didn't exactly make me a Skynyrd fan.

2). In "Freebird: The Movie," Ronnie is fishing on a lake and talking about "Free Bird" and what it means to him. All of a sudden the guy who wanted his buddy to fuck the hippie's girlfriend gives way to a "Simple Man"...a guy talking about what it meant to him to be free, to live life.

I know people from Florida who have stories to tell about Ronnie's home town. He was what he was. And in the end, that's all any of us can be.

I preferred Reed, Bowie, Iggy, Dolls, etc...but would go see any act at the auditorium-Hey, weed, ludes, and bottle rockets!
I remember my profound astonishment when I realized just how good they were. And saying to myself, "Man, this guy is a great songwriter. His use of language is careful and precise. His lyrics are just as good as those of Reed or Young. How can that be?"
