Bear Attack! (DIAL UP WARNING!) (Graphic)
ST overheats on Auto Road, Mt. Washington, NH. Bear immediately comes out of the woods to investigate. Bike has fish stored in the back of it. Apparently, both bikers got away safely. A friend of mine from NH sent me these so I guess she knows them. She's not good at explaining who these people are so I am going to have to drag the info out of her.

3. I heard a black bear expert of 42 years say on MN public radio that was a myth
that black bear mothers will attack in anyone comes near their cubs. He said he had tagged numerous bear cubs as they were screaming with their mother nearby and has never been attacked.

He also said concerning black bears that it is a myth to run away from them. He said it is very likely if you run from a black bear that it will run in the opposite direction.

He said that he had developed a pepper spray that works great on black bears if they get too close and it is only 1/6th the strength of that carried by people to use on muggers. He told of when he was in his rural backyard with his 4 year old granddaughter and a bear got to close to her so she sprayed it with pepper spray. He said that the next day he was out in the yard and the bear was there and it had no problem with him, but when his granddaughter came out the bear took one look and ran away and climbed a tree. In reality they are more afraid of us than we are of them and they have good reason to be.

12. That's correct, black bears aren't prone to aggression
They are smaller on average than brown bears and so they are able to run away and climb trees as a defense mechanism. Brown bears (of which Grizzlies are a subset) are typically larger and can't climb trees as well, so they are more likely to stand their ground. Even at that, brown bear attacks are rare, especially in the lower 48 where most of them are smaller and mostly vegetarian.

5. That would have scared the shit out of me.
Maybe a single adult bear scrounging for fish, but a mother bear with cubs? FFFFFFUUUUUUU....

17. They're unpredictable.
Being lazy omnivores generally they're not up for trouble. However (and however will get you killed every time), they have no natural enemies, ie except for other bears nothing will take them on. So we don't scare them and sometimes we annoy them or have something they want. That's when it gets unpleasant because you can't out run, out climb or out jump (I've watched one jump a five foot fence) a black bear.

10. That bear needs a ride!

I actually think that animals are often confused and curious and the weird things we two-legs do and have around us.
