Anyone have updated best albums of 2009 lists?
Here's my last list before the final one in Dec./Jan. The only requirement is that the album be released sometime this year.

My top 20:

A Fine Frenzy - Bomb In A Birdcage (Album Of The Year)
Regina Spektor - Far
Metric - Fantasies
Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Molly Jenson - Maybe Tomorrow
Indigo Girls - Poseidon & The Bitter Bug
Raveonettes - In And Out Of Control
Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted
Bruce Springsteen - Working On A Dream
Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career
Ingrid Michaelson - Everybody
Miranda Lambert - Revolution
Pearl Jam - Backspacer
The Love Willows - Hey! Hey! (iTunes release only)
Kate Voegele - A Fine Mess
U2 - No Line On The Horizon
Cheap Trick - The Latest
Mandy Moore - Amanda Leigh
Caitlin Crosby - Flawz
Sarah Fimm - Red Yellow Sun

Honorable mentions include the much improved Ettes CD, Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest, Maria Taylor - Ladyluck, Wilco - Wilco (The Album), Whitney Steele - Any Thoughts On That?, Tinted Windows - self-titled, etc.

I would put the Fransisca London CD down, but it's not really a 2009 album even though released in some places in 2009.

I'm sure this will change, as I haven't heard some albums yet and there are very promising ones yet to come (like albums from Lights, Michelle Branch hopefully this year, Adam Lambert, Alison Iraheta, Carrie Underwood, Brandi Carlile, and more).

1. Oh, and Paramore's Brand New Eyes gets a least a HM
Possibly more.

Remember, there's also the possibility I forgot an album. I don't closely look until the final list.

16. What is an "HM"??
Why do I feel like I am coming to this party too late? I need like a dictionary that tells me what this insider language is?

4. Nope, still going strong
They also released Rockford in 2006. The Latest is just as good as that album - maybe even better even with the ballad-heaviness.

Neko Case's Middle Cyclone is an album that would get another HM.

3. I've got a lot of releases to catch up on
...but here's the current list:

Akron/Family, Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free
Black Moth Super Rainbow, Eating Us
Bruce Springsteen, Working on a Dream
Camera Obscura, My Maudlin Career
The Dirty Projectors, Bitte Orca
Florence and the Machine, Lungs
Grizzly Bear, Veckatimest
The Horrors, Primary Colours
Morrissey, Years of Refusal
Mos Def, The Ecstatic
Neko Case, Middle Cyclone (possible album of the year)
Wilco, Wilco

I'll revise it at least once before the end of the year, if only to whittle it down and to catch up with more big late-year releases (there's a new Flaming Lips this month, for example).

Thanks for this thread! I didn't know there was a new Raveonettes coming out...

5. You're welcome! It's my favorite Raveonettes album
Nice to see the Dirty Projectors on you list. I don't always get critic bands, but they are sublimely melodic.

6. I have a few I can think of off the top of my head...
By the way, that Mandy Moore is certainly a good one. Tinted Windows as well.

Porcupine Tree - The Incident

Root! - Surface Paradise (former lead singer of TISM)

7. Mandy has come a long way, hasn't she?

Before her solid self-titled CD, I dismissed her as a Britney-copy. But she's become much more.

11. I just heard "Hospice" by the Antlers for the first time
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 12:48 AM by EastTennesseeDem
At the suggestion of a friend.

:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

It's a concept album about a man who takes care of a girl who is dying. And falls in love with her.

And it was carried out, written, and composed more beautifully than any record I have heard in a long, long time. Seriously, listen to those lyrics.

It's very ambient, very post-rock, and just heart-shattering.

So basically, my top three would consist of that, No One's First and You're Next (Modest Mouse EP), and Wilco. Other than that, it's been tepid to say the least.

13. Mika - The Boy Who Knew Too Much is on my list somewhere
If you surveyed my friends I would say about 90% of them have at least heard a Mika song and 70% listen to him. Of course my friends must be a crappy random sample of America since he's not doing a full North American tour.

15. I have no idea
There are no radio stations where I live that play anything new unless it is lame "hip-hop" music (the most boring of it, too). I would love to hear the music that you have listed. I miss living in the Los Angeles area, where you could listen to at least 6 different radio stations.
