1. I don't know...

If somebody served as a submariner (on an attack sub, not a boomer), I can certainly see them taking pride in their service, and that is the sentiment of those who serve on attack subs.

2. It's an intra service good natured ribbing

and if you think of it in military terms, its the truth. The Navy is quite multi dimensional with surface sailors, submariners, flyboys, construction workers (CB's); and though they don't like to admit it, the Marines belong to the Navy. I'm sure that will bring a response from a host of Retired Gunny's - Semper Fi!

3. I agree; I saw a similar sticker

...claiming there were only 2 kinds of aircraft -- F-16s and targets. :)
