1. Nice
a warning about Orson Scott Card though since I assume that's related to your nick - he went completely off the deep end after 9/11. He's never hid the fact that he's mormon - but his embrace of Bush and hard core conservative values after 9/11 has made me lose all respect for him. Shame too cause he is quite a talented writer. I even called him on the phone one time (years before 9/11). Oh and he's against gay marriage. He has claimed to be a Democrat in the past but I sure don't see anything resembling that now. So now I no longer read his books - there are plenty of other talented writers out there who are not crazy assholes. BTW - he used to be one of my all time favorite writers. :(

Here is his own latest Anti-Obama essay: http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2009-02-16-1.html

I mean WOW - Orson has seriously lost his mind.

10. I totally agree politically he is a whackjob but like Mel Gibson,
Even though he is a total nut I still enjoy what he produces

13. I hear ya
I just have to draw the line somewhere ya know? And when he gave money to help fund Prop 8 to ban gay marriage in California - that's just too much - my bi-sexual sister lives there and she might like to get married to a female some day. He could be the best writer in the world and I still won't read anything he writes anymore now that I know how his sick sick mind works. But to each his/her own. If he had just stayed out of politics, this could have all been avoided. On the other hand - awesome avatar - DON'T PANIC! Heheh. I recently read a biography of Douglas Adams and wow - he was like the nicest guy!

14. I did not realize he was active in the prop 8
Well from now on if I am going to read another OSC book it will be from the library!
Anywho I love love love Douglas Adams!! If you like him you will probably like Terry Pratchett or Spider Robinson. I love all things sci fi. I got started on Star Trek and Star Wars and recently got introduced to the wonderful world of scifi literature (for some reason I use to read mainly non fiction )

15. If you love sci-fi...
then tv-show wise I highly recommend Farscape, Odyssey 5 (1 season only but well worth it), classic BBC Doctor Who (great stories - and the new Doctor Who series is pretty good too), Lost (yes, it is indeed sci-fi), Fringe, Highlander - The Series, Torchwood (Season 3 only - first two seasons had bad writers imo), Buffy, Angel (granted more fantasy than sci-fi but still), Firefly, Dollhouse, and of course the great remake of Battlestar Galactica.

All great shows with excellent writing. Nice stuff to throw on your Netflix if you do that, or some libraries even carry some of these shows. Always nice to meet another sci-fi geek. :hi:

9. I don't even have a room right now!
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 06:26 PM by EndersDame
I just moved back into Austin because of unforseen circumstances and decided to go back to my moms to help her out (she is recooping from fracturing a hip and breaking and I am on the couch) later on when she gets better though it would be way cool

18. Just remember either will spot weld you to the bulkhead.
That b'day party for the captain of the USS Insufferable featuring bloodwine and the tragic aftermath? The mini black hole in the Beta Quad?

It's why synthahol was invented.
