Who's your favorite demon/mishievious god/wicked fairy?
I've been totally addicted to this game for the Nintendo DS lately called Shin Megumi Tensei: Devil Survivor. I would recommend it about 10,000 times over if I could.
Anyway, the game portrays tons of demons in it from a variety of different cultural backgrounds...from Japanese Ogres, to Norse Gods (Loki and Baldr), to Christian demons (such as Beelzebub)...
and I must say that the mythology behind a lot of these creatures is pretty interesting. Also how they are portrayed. Personally, I've always been rather fond of Loki myself. He's a complete asshole, doing some of the most mean-spirited crap imaginable just because he felt like it. He takes mischief to a whole new prickish level.
Also, I find how Beelzebub is often portrayed as interesting/horrifying.
'Lord of the Flies'...he really makes you realize how awful flies really are. Blech.
Anyway, this may just be nerdy ramblings on my part, but please do contribute your thoughts. Are there any mystical creatures and evil spirits that you find interesting? :hi:

1. Dashing, conflicted demons!
Ever read any Neil Gaiman? I love his version of Lucifer from the Sandman comics (who got his own spinoff later). Heavily influenced by Milton's version, of course, who's one of the great literary hotties of all time.

Also, in 'Good Omens' which Gaiman wrote with Terry Pratchett, there's Crowley, the adorable ambivalent classic-Bentley-driving boozehound whose idea of Big Evil is mischief with cell phones and highways, and wants to save the world because he likes good restaurants.

Lucifer is also FUCKING AWESOME in 'I, Lucifer' by Glen Duncan, which is (along with 'Good Omens') one of the funniest religious satires I've ever read.

2. Why the Dread Lord Cthulhu of course!
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"

Translation for those destined to devoured by the Great Old Ones first: " In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming."

There is no hope! No salvation! Our sanity and our lives will be devoured by Cthulhu! Have a nice day! :hi: Ia! Ia! Ia!

P.S.

That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.
