Just a reminder for anyone who may need it at the moment.
Being unable to forgive is like drinking a poison and expecting the other person to die.

Namaste.

1. Great!
:hi:

The last few days I have been thinking about forgiveness and how desirable it is...but hard to achieve.

13. Never really saw it as a religious issue, honestly.
If a person deserves to have a grudge held against them, they aren't worth my time and energy to hold it.

And if they don't deserve the grudge... well, holding it is still not worth my time and energy.

15. I'm not a religious person, either, SA
but there is a lot of common sense to that sentiment. And it's not predicated upon telling that person that you forgive them, altho it's nice when that can happen, too. It's merely a matter of unburdening the anger and hurt within yourself so you aren't carrying it around. I think our physical, emotional, and mental healths are negatively effected when those emotions are permitted to roil around inside of us continuously. It doesn't hurt the person it is directed at, only the person who carries it around. Totally applies in a secular fashion, I think.

And namaste is the act of verbally bowing in recognition of the honor and respect for another person in whatever state they exist in, whether their beliefs are attune to the person offering that honor or respect.

I can probably and properly describe myself as agnostic, once a Christian. I've found more of the sentiment above and those like it alive and active in the atheists I know than in many of the believers I encounter.

There is much wisdom to be found at the root of many belief systems once all the detritus has been sorted through and set aside. Like Gandhi said, and I paraphrase here, "I admire your Christ. It's his followers that I take issue with." ;)

Again, I say, Namaste, SA.

8. My dear hippywife!
Indeed...

To err is human...

To forgive, divine...

Yours are wise words indeed...

12. "like drinking a poison"

Holding anger or hatred in your heart is literally bad for your health.
To forgive yourself is the highest form of self love. Once you can do that, you can forgive others.

A great reminder hippywife. Thanks :hi:
