2. Well, we don't see Christianity as repressive
we even play cards and dance! No, it's true! I hope you're not shocked.

6. Well, I don't see it as repressive, either...

4. Two words...
Anheiser Busch.

They are to St Patrick's Day, what Hallmark is to Valentines Day.

... since Black n' Tans is Bass and Guinness. Also Black n' Tans refer to the hated British convicts that were sent over by the British to keep the Irish in line. As such, no one in their right mind would order a Black n' Tan in the south.

7. Because it is a freaking good idea.
Even JC knew that on a day of celebration that the libations should flow as freely as water.

11. It's the Americans who are promoting the whole St. Patrick's Day thing.
My impression is that in Ireland the whole American St. Pat's frenzy is looked on with wonder and alarm. Irish DUers, am I right?

C ya,

13. St Paddy's Day is a National holiday in ...
... in Ireland. Parades are held through-out Ireland which makes getting from place to place rather difficult if not impossible. There's enough Irish with relatives in the States that its nothing more than an extension of the national holiday. There's more of a frenzy in Ireland than the States.
