A little help please...vote NO in this poll!
Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 11:49 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Apparently the attorneys want a closed hearing for these two professors who were wrongfully terminated and Thames wants to make the hearing public in order to turn the pack mentality against them.

Apparently Thames doesn't want to follow his own faculty handbook which calls for closed hearings.

32. NEW POLL UP NOW, VOTE YES ON THIS ONE
Yes it is appropriate for another university under the same state system to chime in on what happens in another. They are all overseen by the state college board, and what affects one affects all

GO VOTE YES! SHOW THIS CORPORATIST COLLEGE ADMINISTRATOR THAT HE CAN'T GET AWAY WITH ARBITRARY FIRINGS!

5. A little background info
Apparently Thames wants to drag every little irrelevent fact into this since he fired them for "insubordination" but also seized their computers and would like to drag files from a professor's computer into a public hearing to take it off the topic of whether they were wrongfully fired.

13. No they should have a closed hearing
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 12:27 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
That is their right and it is what the faculty handbook calls for..the only purpose of an open hearing would be for Thames to take items off their computer that might be appropriate in academia, especially for a liberal arts prof in academia and use this to attempt to turn public sentiment against the professors..they are entitled to a PRIVATE hearing on the matter...Thames is attempting to skirt protocols in order to politicize the wrongful termination of these tenured professors.

It isn't a trial, it is a hearing in which the university advisory counsel will look at the evidence and decide whether or not to affirm the CONSERVATIVE president's termination of two LIBERAL ARTS profs, and this hearing will be sent to the State College Board for a decision to affirm or deny the prez's decision. It is a personnel matter, and the faculty handbook mandates CLOSED hearings. The prez is trying to say the rules don't apply to him.

Let's hope the tide turns in our favor. Of course, they will do whatever they want and not care about an internet poll. Still... :grr:

:hi: Hope all's well! I'm home safe now! The house thing is getting annoying, though, and may not work out. :-(

30. NEW POLL UP NOW--VOTE YES ON THIS ONE
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 10:12 AM by Teneha
Of course it is appropriate for professors at other state universities to have an opinion on what happens in any other state university.

They are governed by the same college board and what affects one affects all!
