I am watch History International program about the dark ages.
According to the show the falling of the Roman Empire caused the dark ages.

Makes sense to me.

No Roman Empire no working sewers or good roads.

Then the church stepped into take place of the Roman Empire.

Discuss.

1. Is that the one where you see the same Roman statue being toppled about 18 times?
Hilarious.

2. dark age = a time with no (or little) surviving written history
It's not a value judgment about the society.

The couple centuries between the withdrawal of the Romans and the rise of European feudalism is one dark age. Another is the time following the bronze age but before classical Greece in the Mediterranean.
