Your top ten R-rated comedies
With The Hangover having recently become the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time* I'm glad to see that this genre is not dead. Studios tend to avoid the R-rating choosing to cast the widest possible net with a PG or PG-13 rating.

* Adjusted for inflation, Beverly Hills Cop (1984) is still the top grosser though it's absent from my top ten. Not that I didn't enjoy it; it's just that I easily found ten films I enjoyed more.

So without further ado, my ten favorite R-rated comedies of all time:

Have not seen: Borat, Wedding Crashers, Knocked Up.

Honorable mention: The Jerk, Trading Places, Porky's, The Breakfast Club, Beverly Hills Cop, Clerks

10. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
9. Wedding Crashers (2005)
8. Stripes (1981)
7. The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977)
6. Superbad (2007)
5. The Hangover (2009)
4. National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
3. Blazing Saddles (1974)
2. Caddyshack (1980)

And my number one R-rated comedy of all time is:

1. National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
i]Dad! Mom, Dad, this is Larry Kroger. The boy who molested me last month. We have to get married.

2. My Cousin Vinny
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 04:01 PM by Auggie
would be in my top 10. Along with:

10: Ruthless People
9: There's Something About Mary
8: A Fish Called Wanda
7. Stripes
6. Blazing Saddles
5: The Groove Tube
4. Caddyshack
3. My Cousin Vinny
2. Eating Raoul
1. National Lampoon's Animal House

Haven't seen the newer comedies. And even though #s 10, 5 and 2 are dated by today's standards, they were wonderfully fresh when originally released.

5. definitely in my top twenty
You choke the chicken before any big date, don't you? Tell me you spank the monkey before any big date. Oh my God, he doesn't flog the dolphin before a big date. Are you crazy? That's like going out there with a loaded gun! Of course that's why you're nervous. Oh my dear friend, please sit, please. Look, um, after you've had sex with a girl, and you're lying in bed with her, are you nervous? No, you're not, why? It's 'cause you ain't got the baby batter on the brain anymore! Jesus, that stuff will fuck you're head up!

10. Hurray! Someone else who's seen "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"!

That movie could've done a lot better in theaters if the studio had bothered to market it. I lent my copy to a couple of friends who'd never heard of it and they both thought it was hilarious.

11. Why was The Breakfast Club rated R?
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 04:46 PM by pokerfan
I had to look it up to be sure.

Quebec: G
Manitoba: PG
Sweden: 11
Netherlands: 12
West Germany: 12
Argentina: 13
USA: R

:wtf:

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
have not seen it, will add it to my to be rented list (my ulterior motive for launching this thread)

Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers
we agree to disagree :)

Monty Python's Meaning of Life
one of my favorites of all time - did not realizeforgot it was R. It needs to be shown in grade school - ETA: oh yeah, the full frontal male nudity I guess.

This Is Spinal Tap!
another one I didn't realize was R. Needs to be in my top ten.

Where the Buffalo Rome
left me underwhelmed - that book cannot be translated to film, with or without a voice over.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
another one I have not seen

Thanks! Two added to the netflix wish list.

:hi:

15. I'm guessing "The Breakfast Club" was because of language
and that the movie showed them getting stoned. Seems pretty tame compared to a lot of current movies, though.

7. I can't come up with 10, but I'll add a few to the list in no particular order
Scary Movie II (though I recognize that it's not highbrow comedy)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Quick Change (too often overlooked in favor of the admittedly excellent Groundhog Day)

13. In my defense
I never saw it. It was 'spoiled' for me early on and I've never gotten around to seeing it.
