My dad is in the hospital for the fourth time in the past year.
He originally went in for back surgery. Everything is okay with his back now, but after the surgery he developed a blood clot that went to one of his lungs. The blood clot then turned into an abscess in his lung. They treated that with heavy duty anitbiotics which in turn caused him to develop some kind of foreign bacterial infection in his intestines. Just when I thought everything was going to be okay, I got a call a few minutes ago from my sister saying that he has been admitted to the hospital for another blood clot. This one is located between his shoulder and his neck. He is afraid that it will move and cause greater harm. The doctor at the hospital hasn't said anything to alleviate his fears.

These health problems are killing him. I took him to the doctor just the other day because he could not drive due to dizziness. My dad is 57, but appears to be a much older man right now. He is weak, withdrawn, and depressed. He's been off work for most of this year and is depending on friends and family to get him through these rough times. On top of all that, of course, are the medical bills.

4. Oh Tobin
I'm real sorry to hear of your Dad's situation right now. I'll certainly keep him and your Mom in my thoughts. Hopefully they can get things settled down and the clot won't be a problem. Will they give him blood thinners etc?

I sure can relate to the medical bills! It just doesn't seem fair at all.

If you need to talk give a holler. I think you have our number.

Best wishes to your Dad, Tobin.

Hang in there and try not to get too worried ok?

 :grouphug:

6. Yes, they are starting him on blood thinners
He's still in the ER right now, but will be moved to a room shortly. For some lighter news, check out my other thread here pn the front page "About Being Fat."

11. That really hit home
Two reasons: first, when my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he went from a
77 year old guy who could beat other guys 20 years younger at tennis to a wreck who looked
like death warmed over (his phrase for it). As it was, he lasted 11 months from the time
of diagnosis--a near miracle for pancreatic cancer.

Second--now I'M the one who's 57, and although I don't feel 30 any more, I still feel 30 in
my head, and I'm not ready for stuff like that to strike me down, either.

My heart goes out to the both of you. I'm not sure how well I'd cope with your situation.
