Got my DirecTv bill today.
They wanted me to pay 44.99 for 6 months for my NFL Sunday Ticket. Nearly $270. Way too much!!

Called to have it removed from my package.

They offered $10 reduction per month. Told them no.

Then they offered $20 reduction per month plus my DVR service at no charge for 6 months.

Total savings = $156

1. Good deal!..............

I guess I need to give DirecTV a call and see if they'll hook me up with something.

What really pisses me off is that there are no rewards for customer loyalty unless you threaten to cancel, then they'll fall all over themselves to keep you. Nothing for the guy who pays his bill every month.

2. Holy shit -- I will have to check my bill!
I've got the NFL package. If it's that much, I'm going to threaten to cancel it, also.

3. I have Comcast, is DirecTv cheaper?....
and better quality? Comcast seems kind of expensive and we don't get that many channels.

4. You have to weigh the pros and cons.
I have Comcast for my internet.

The cons for DirecTv:
Reception during rain or other weather.
Have to pay extra for local stations if I want it. I use OTA instead.

The pros for DirecTv:
I don't know what the pros are compared to Comcast since I first changed over. But at the time there were many. Cost was one. Channels was another. Company discount another.

5. I have the 99 option on top of that fee
to watch all games on my laptop anywhere in the US. All I need is a internet connection. I can watch them on my blackberry too.

6. Thanks! I called them this morning.
We've had them for 13 years and always get the football package (Pats fans living in GA). They first offered me 10 bucks off a month too, I refused, then 20 and 6 months of free Showtime, which we already have, but I was happy. Total savings: $150.

7. Here is a big secret about getting lower charges..
Cable, dsl, phone, satillite, whatever.
their monthly charges are whatever they want them to be.
If you call and tell them you are going to switch to another provider, they will make you an offer.
Negotiate.
We are saving about 30.00 a month off phone and DISH. This economy has providers really paying attention to customers.

8. The problem with DirecTV
is that they lie.

My spouse called because our equipment was very old, and newer customers have many features that we did not get. He said he was considering ending DirecTV service.

They said we could have updated equipment, and twenty dollars off a month, if we had a twelve month contract. So spouse agreed.

After receiving and installing the new equipment, DirecTV refused to honor the twenty dollars off. They said the best they could do was ten dollars off per month, and if we didn't like it, too bad, we were stuck for twelve months.

Moreover, he's had to call them twice to even get the ten dollars off, because they continued to charge the full rate.
