One of my molars ache like hell!
I am in a lot of pain and I can't get through to my dentist nor can I get her to return my calls. If I don't get an appointment for tomorrow,I'll have to wait until Monday and I don't think I can last that long.

1. I know the feeling.
I've used both antibiotics to calm things as well as leftover drugs from the dentist (vicodin) and some percocet to make it go away for a time. What is really needed is a strong anti-inflammatory. Can you take Aleve?

2. Get some Oil of Cloves from the pharmacy.
It will really help kill the pain in the meanwhile.

Hope you get in to see your dentist, and quickly.

5. My dentist is sick in bed with a chronic illness
they don't expect her back for awhile. So I have an appointment for the 30th and that is if she is back at work. I got enough pills to last me till then. Just have to remember not to chew food on that side of the mouth.

Or I can go to the main hospital and stand in line for two hours. Screw that,I am waiting for my dentist. I only even have a dentist because of the Ryan White fund or otherwise I would have to use the main hospital for EVERYTHING dental. Again, hours and hours of waiting.

4. Go to another dentist, preferably an oral surgeon.
Sounds like an abscess and that can be extremely painful. Maybe some heavy doses of Advil may reduce the inflammation but only an oral surgeon can solve your problem for real.

7. In abscess is one of a dozen things that it might be
And even if it's an abscess, an oral surgeon isn't the only one who can remedy it.

8. The tooth in question is more filling than actual teeth
Well, maybe half and half in reality. I do need an oral surgeon but in meantime I am going to keep on taking this OTC pain reliever until the 30th.

10. Well, I've had the same thing happen...
...a general dentist will beat around the bush and offer several alternatives, all of which are only putting off the inevitable. An oral surgeon will have the situation resolved in an hour and NO MORE PAIN. That's just my advice after going through the exact thing you're going through 3 times in the past.

12. You're welcome, I hope you feel better soon.
Oral surgeons can work very quickly too - one time I was waiting for them to finish the setup, and he said, "OK, you're set." I said, "You're done?!?" and he said, "All done." He had the tooth out before I thought he had even started.

13. I will know when this tooth is pulled
because it's going to shatter into a million of pieces as it's being pulled out. CRUNCH!!!

6. Ibuprofen has helped me with tooth pain, though I have no authority to give it a formal endorsement
Swishing cool water across the pained area can, surprisingly, also help reduce the pain temporarily.

Good luck to you!

14. Honestly, it's either that or else amputate everything above the neck
Nothing quite so debilitating as serious tooth pain. Ouch!

15. Me too...
Roon:hug: I just lost a small filling, and the next day, half of another tooth just broke off. The pain was horrific, and was able to see a dentist just for pain meds and an antibiotic. Now I'm doped up, and have to wait for another appointment...But I'm worried that you may need an antibiotic, and not just something to ease the pain. If it gets any worse, please see an MD, or maybe your MD might call in an antibiotic for you...I'm worried that you may have an infection/abscessed tooth...:-(
Feel better soon...

peace~
