Need advice about what to wear to a wedding Saturday night...
My cousin is getting married Saturday at 7:00 pm. It's being here.

I haven't been to a wedding for years. I'm totally clueless as to what to wear. I have slacks, shirt, tie, dress shoes, but no jacket. I haven't needed one for years so have put of purchasing one.

After reading up on wedding atire this morning, it looks like it's proper to wear a jacket. I went out looking for one today, but couldn't find one that fits properly, (I usually have to have something tailored). Will it be acceptable to go jacketless?

Any advice?

1. For a 7PM wedding, you really need to wear a suit, not just a jacket.
Sorry, dude.

4. Do you have a local Goodwill store
or re-sale shop near you? It might be worth your while to check them out.

7. I went to Goodwill today, but no luck...
There are other resale stores in the area I'm going to try tomorrow. We'll see how it pans out.

5. what a lovely church!

Most men I know usually wear jackets, esp. at a church wedding. But if you aren't in the wedding, you would think no one would notice, since most men take off their jackets at the reception anyway, right? Maybe if you wore a nice vest with the shirt and tie?

Otherwise, maybe you might have to get one.

6. Actually I'm going to hit a few resale shops tomorrow...
I have a nice vest I plan on wearing if I can't pull off a jacket. Do you really think I can get by with that?

10. I guess I must go to less formal weddings than some folks here

I think it really depends on how "formal" the folks holding the wedding are and how close you are to them. If you think they would be offended, try to find a jacket somewhere. I don't really think men should always have to wear a suit unless they are in the wedding. I've seen plenty of guys wearing nice jackets with khakis or what have you.

16. I'd hit the second hand shops and at least try to get a jacket. Shouldn't cost you more than
$20 and you'll have it for the next wedding you go to.

11. Why not call up some of your other cousins and ask them
what they are wearing? That way at least you won't be alone. Just don't ask the guy who likes to joke around a lot.

13. What about a guayabera shirt--
the ones with the little pleats running vertically? We just got back from a wedding in Louisiana where the temp was about 98 at the time of the ceremony. None of the men wore jackets. Our event was outdoors during the evening.

I guess I'd check the time of the event and whether the church is cool on the inside at that time of day. A lot are. You can always shed the jacket after the ritual.

17. If you aren't in the wedding
and considering how hot it is, I wouldn't even consider a jacket. As long as you have on nice slacks, a nice long sleeve shirt and tie, I say that's enough.

But then I'm one of those people who really feels no need to consult Ms. Manners and her many minions on these things. As long as I'm clean and presentable, I wear what I want.

:hi:

18. That late in the evening and in a nice church it's going to be formal.
More casual is okay for earlier in the day or outdoor settings, but if it's inside and at night it's full formal unless otherwise indicated. IOW, you'd look less out of place in a rented tux than in a shirt but no jacket.

Most places that sell suits can do same-day alterations, it's just going to cost more.
