What are your top 5 fav songs of all time?
Mine are, and yes, they are in order:

Eternal Flame (The Bangles)

Chiquitita (ABBA) Hey, I am Aussie, and I am queer. It is a requirement to have at least one fav ABBA song. (Side history note: Did you know that Australia gave ABBA more number one hits than any other country?)

Amazed (Lonestar)

Hero (Enrique sp?)

The Tide is High (Blonde)

5. Anyone see a pattern here?
The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes (hey, I'm a NYer)

Beethoven - 2nd movement of the Pathetique Sonata (does that count?)

6. So hard.
1. Reign In Blood - Slayer. (It's just one piece of art, not singular songs.)

2. Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones. (Greatest RnR song in history.)

3. In My Time of Dying - Led Zeppelin (So many greats by Zep but this is my favorite.)

4. Children of the Grave - Black Sabbath. (The granddaddy of speed metal.)

5. Long Tall Sally - "Little" Richard Penniman. (This to me is the beginning of all Heavy Rock N Roll music. I imagine the shock of 1950's America to this Screaming, Black "maniac" banging his piano with great relish.)

10. Can you really just pick five?
I have seen several songs listed in this thread that could be on my top five but they immediately lead to something else. For example someone listed Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, but can you really hear that and not then soon after throw on Dark Side of the Moon or Teachers Leave those Kids Alone, Hmmmmmm maybe that is Bush's education theme song?

How about the Stones Sympathy for the Devil? Certainly you have to listen to Paint it Black

I loved the nomination of Little Richards Long Tall Sally, but then you have to listen to his version of Good Golly Miss Molly.

I always have a real dilemma and end up choosing both the Original Hotel California and then the unplugged Hell Freezes over version.

By the way while we are on the subject what the heck is Colitas? And yes it is Colitas it is not one smell could lead us rising up through the air. Does anyone know what Colitas is? I assume some desert flower but looking it up I could not find any definition, I guess it could be something naughty.

13. Colitas . . .
http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_001.html

"This E-mail just in from Eagles management honcho Irving Azoff: "In response to your memo, in 1976, during the writing of the song 'Hotel California' by Messrs. Henley and Frey, the word `colitas' was translated for them by their Mexican-American road manager as 'little buds.' You have obviously already done the necessary extrapolation. Thank you for your inquiry."

11. Here are mine (and this wasn't easy)
Not necessarily in order, though.

I Go Crazy (Paul Davis)
Waiting for a Girl Like You (Foreigner)
Seasick, Yet Still Docked (Morrissey)
Every Little Kiss (Bruce Hornsby)
Easy Lover (Phil Collins/Philip Bailey)

Don't ask me why - I think I associate them with certain periods in my life, or maybe I just love the song!

23. Israel Kamamamamaamamwa's "Wonderful World/Over the Rainbow"
is my favorite recording of a song ever. It is the fizzy lifting drink of my life, and I save it for occasions of extreme joy or melancholy. Goose bumps, flushed feeling of warmth, etc when I hear it.

Then, there's "Here Comes A Regular" by the Replacements if I'm feeling sad or downbeat, "Bastards of Young" if I'm up and/or angry.

"Perfect Circle" by R.E.M. for the same reasons, and lastly Patsy Cline's version of "You Belong to Me," whether I'm in the mindset of the world traveller or the flame left behind.

Honorable Mention: "Happy Birthday" by Concrete Blonde, which I hole up in my studio with a beer and dance to every March 26th.
