I told my son that
I remember the day that MTV premiered. He looked at me like I had laid an egg right there in the kitchen. I explained that Friday Night Videos were my only chance at seeing videos back in the day. I'm still not entirely sure he believes me.

In my room, there were four posters: ZZTop, Prince, Bruce Penhall, and Michael Jackson. Gawd, I had a crush on Michael Jackson. After all, who could resist his performance at the Motown Anniversary? His poster was one of those door sized things, it was huge and I loved it.

So here's to slumber parties, Billie Jean, road tiles that light up, sequined gloves, and pinch-rolled Levi's. Rest in Peace Michael.

1. Right on.
I suspect you're a bit younger than I am, but I also remember MTV's debut -- about two weeks before I started my freshman year in college. _LOVED_ "Billie Jean." What an immense talent Michael Jackson was. :hi:

2. There were only
a couple of videos being shown over and over and over and over.

I gave a demonstration speech about how to Moonwalk in FFA!! LOL

3. Friday Night Videos, that takes me back.
I remember taping Betamax (!) tapes of Friday Night Videos and watching them the whole week, waiting for the next episode. And then when my grandparents got MTV (we didn't have cable) it was like a contest to see how much time I could spend at their house watching it. I was enthralled!

I had the double-gatefold vinyl of Thriller and it was my most prized possession except my Prince albums. I'm still a huge fan of his music with the Jackson 5 and early solo career.

That said, I'm pretty sure he was a child molester and therefore, I'm basically glad he's dead.
