Any Lawyers here who know about suing Doctors? Serious question......
Can I sue a former family doctor who so severely misdiagnosed an illness that I nearly died? He had been treating me for several years for a condition I never had, while entirely missing one that nearly killed me. And there are many other complications, and several other doctors who contributed to this. This is in PA.

I know this is very general, but I just want to know if I should speak to a lawyer or is it a waste of time?

1. I am not a lawyer, but I would consult one.
I think it is hard to tell without knowing the details.

2. Many lawyers will do a free initial consultation to discuss whether you have a case.

It sounds to me like you should seriously consider pursuing it, but I am not a lawyer, I do not play one on the internet, and I know fuck-all about malpractice rules in Pennsylvania, so that advice is worth about what you paid for it.

edit: And since you shouldn't tell any random idiot on the internet the specifics, that's probably as good as you're going to get without going in and talking to an expert. I can give you a hint on finding a good lawyer: call several. Visit more than one office. Go with the one with the sharpest secretary.

3. There is a local large firm that specializes in this - they have several
attorneys who are also MD's and have been doing this type of work for years...I think I will call them next week.

Thanks.

4. OK, I called - I let it go too long - there is a 2 year statute of limitations

for medical malpractice in PA, and my case is well past that.
I probably would have had a case, too on several points.

MORAL: if you feel like you have a possible malpractice case, talk to a lawyer who specializes in this type of practice as soon after the event as possible.

Hope you survived it in spite of your medical care....
