5. Thanks Peggy,
although I don't like Flickr that much because the slideshows are a little blurry, and the regular views are too small. Oh well.

7. Thanks
It's easy to take breathtaking pictures at Yosemite, all you have to do is hold the camera level and click the shutter...

8. Awesome, although
the waterfalls will have a lower flow in July/August than they do now. In low-snow years some of them may even be completely dry. If it's possible I would recommend that you go there right now, while all waterfalls still have their full spring flow.

9. would love to, but
I travel the U.S. and have to go where work takes me, when it takes me. I will be up by San Francisco late July and hence the opportunity. Although not perfect timing, I am so lucky to experience so much. Hiked the Grand Canyon last month and in the past few years have visited the Everglades, Redwoods, Cumberland Gap, Mount Rushmore, The Rockies, NYC, Oak Island, NC, the Spam Museum in Minn., Hoover Dam, the Columbia River, crossed the Mississippi numerous times, New Orleans, etc, etc, etc.

I know the waterfalls are glorious and will remember your pictures of Yosemite when I am there.

10. Here's a video I took...

The waterfalls will not be this full when you are there, but hopefully you will see some good ones. Even without the full rush of water there is still plenty of beauty to be seen all over the place there. Yes you are lucky to have visited all those places.

19. I first saw Yosemite in early June

with flowing water, and snow in the higher reaches. I would think that later summer wouldn't compare. Theodore Roosevelt once said that everyone should see Grand Canyon sometimes in their lives, I would humbly say all should see Yosemite in the early season.

Edit-left out one letter.

terrain. It makes me think about what it must have been like when the First Peoples lived there with no settlers...

25. Love the Eastern Sierras. More challange, less people. Hwy.395,one of the great
scenic roads of the United States. May make it out there this July or August.Haven't been there in several years. Best summer hiking range in the States. Doesn't get the drenching monsoonal patterns that can occur in the Rockies that time of year.

26. Thanks, I agree with all that except for one point..
The 395 through the Mojave Desert is a boring, dreary and exhausting drive. Lone Pine is the last interesting place on the 395 going south. The stretch of 395 from Lone Pine down to Hesperia is 150 miles of nothing, and it seems endless. Worse, it's a 2-lane highway most of the way, and you can easily get stuck behind a very large truck which is only allowed to go 55 mph. There are some passing zones and some areas where passing is allowed but the small hills make it too dangerous to pass. It is really an awful drive. I can't understand why anyone would want to live in places like Red Mountain or Johannesburg. Maybe there was mining there once but once the mines ran out, why would they stay there? After coming out of the Sierras, the Mojave desert seems like an empty, boring, inhospitable place. Nothing to see there, very little in the way of services, even spotty cell phone service - what if you broke down there? Not even any rest stops either. I'll never take that part of it again. But the 395 from Lone Pine up to the Nevada border is a terrific drive with numerous scenic opportunities in the eastern Sierras and the White Mountains as well.

27. I agree. Hwy 395 begins at Lone Pine for my purposes. Any drive through the Mojave is a hard road
to hoe.

Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 10:08 PM by Born_A_Truman
and I have to say, you have to love the desert to live here. It is harsh. But I love the peace and quiet. No car alarms or traffic out here where I am. LOL!
