1. if I can interject one of the all-time great comebacks....
On a bright and temperate October 29 in Pasadena, WSU pulled off one of the great victories of the 1988 college football season -- and one of the most improbable in Cougar football history.

UCLA, led by All-American quarterback Troy Aikman, came into the game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation. They were a 19-point favorite against a Cougar team that had started the season well but was coming off two disappointing losses to the Arizona schools.

For 2 1/2 quarters, the script unfolded as expected. The Bruins jumped to a 27-6 third quarter lead, prompting ABC-TV color commentator Bob Griese to opine that WSU didn’t deserve to be on the same field as the powder-blue juggernaut.

But then, Timm Rosenbach fired a short pass over the middle to a crossing Tim Stallworth who turned the catch into an electrifying 81-yard touchdown. Suddenly, one of the most nail-biting, upset comebacks in Pac-10 history was underway.

When Rich Swinton, subbing for the injured Steve Broussard, capped an 80 yard, 13-play drive with a 1-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter, the Cougs led for the first time, 34-30.

But Aikman marched the Bruins to first-and-goal at the Cougar five with a minute to go. Four times, the Cougar defense thwarted him, as Artie Holmes, Ron Lee and Vernon Todd each knocked down passes. Holmes had killed an earlier fourth quarter Bruin drive with a diving interception. Alas, when Aikman’s last pass failed to connect in the waning seconds, the roar emanating out of Pullman could be heard nearly to Colfax. A KQQQ radio announcer said the din was louder than a home game in a packed Martin Stadium.

Keith Jackson, Griese’s broadcast partner that day, captured the moment well when he signed off by saying, “Ah, the old bell will ring in (College Hall) all night long, I would think.”

2. nytemare, if you like that BSU comeback, you'll love this from last season.
Utah was down 8 points with just a bit over one-minute left in regulation against Oregon State.

They not only tied, but won in regulation WITHOUT an onside kick. ;)

I was there. Greatest comeback win I've witnessed because it happened so fast.

5. We did it three times last season.

After the Oregon State game, which I think was done because of how emotional the finish was. I mean, at that point, Utah was already fighting for a BCS berth and a loss there would have ended it. So for them to come back and do that was simply amazing.

The second time was against TCU, who were ranked 11th in the nation (Utah 10th) when the Utes knocked them off. That game was a defensive battle and the Utes didn't score their first TD until 45 seconds left in the game to take the lead.

The TCU game came the Thursday after the election and the stadium began chanting, "Yes, We Can!" toward the end. Someone brought an Obama cutout to the game, as well. Ha.

The last was when they wrapped up an undefeated season by drilling BYU. That secured their spot in the BCS.

6. That was the WORST comeback win I've seen.
DUE TO A PHANTOM BULLSHIT PASS INTERFERENCE CALL!!!!!111

Mind you, I'm not bitter.

Without that loss, Alabama and that fuckstick
Saban wouldn't have gotten their ass beat.

Huzzah!

FUCK THE SEC!

Oh well, we broke your running back's leg and put out your quarterback the previous year, a loss the next year is a small price to pay.

The Utes play the dux next year. KICK THEIR ASSES!

7. Oregon scares me.
Mostly because Eugene is a tough place to play. However, they're going through a lot of changes and hopefully that creates enough issues where Utah can walk out victorious.

And yes, FUCK THE SEC!

8. No. You did not just bring up that game
I'm still pissed about that game... terrible refs and we always seem to loose early-season games.

I think the best underdog victory I saw was the two times Oregon State knocked off USC in the last three years. Some of the most fun nights I've ever had in Corvallis.

14. Ha!
However the insinuation that I am or ever have been a duck is cause for an asskicking in most cases.

I think my abuse of the English language was spurred by the fact I've been dating a former duck for over a year and that kind of stupid just rubs off on people.

15. This is why I love college Fball & Bball
when scholarships were limited back in the late 60s I think slowly the field was somewhat levelled.
I love it when a Northwestern beats an Ohio State or a team like Texas Tech can stand with the big boys.
