the daughter is getting married in a couple of hours....

Good GAWD this place is a madhouse. The women are crazed. I'm hiding in the Lounge until ordered to do something.

Here's a comment I emailed to a friend earlier, with the names changed to protect the innocent me:

Morning of the wedding. I'm up early-- gonna be five people lined up for the shower and I want first crack at the hot water.

We drove back out to Demorest yesterday evening to recon the park and practice the pageantry. The females were like generals in the field, surveying the site of tomorrow's battle, pacing off the movements of armies. "The groom's family's chairs will be HERE, and the bride's family's THERE. The caterer's tents will mass in the rear, over THERE. The bride will walk HERE, and the FOB will retire THERE after he delivers her to the gazebo." Apparently I'm the FOB. The MOB-- mother of the bride-- informed me of this when I failed to respond to commands directed to the FOB.

XXX and YYY-- MOB's brother and sis-in-law-- arrived last night just as we got back, so it was another late night. I slept badly-- the living room floor is beginning to get to me.

It's going to be a zoo today. Ten million tasks to do, all at once, and I have little understanding of it all, other than my role, and even that's a bit sketchy. I keep overhearing statements like "Mike will walk her over to the park from John's office." John's office? When will Mike do this? I'm given to understand that it's the FOB's responsibility to make sure the bridal gown and train-- gawd, the thing trails meters of fabric!-- crosses Demorest streets and sidewalks between John's office and the park unsullied. And there's something I'm supposed to write on some ribbons-- part of the ceremony, I think, but I'm not certain. The women seem to have everything more-or-less under control. I hope. If anything goes wrong, ZZZ and MOB will slaughter whomever is responsible.

:scared:

1. All I can say is good luck.
And when it comes to weddings, women really don't expect too much from guys.

9. not till monday night...
...and then after driving to Atlanta at 3:00 AM Monday morning, flying across North America, landing in Sacramento, and driving another six hours to NorCal. It's going to be a long, long day. On the plus side, the GF assures me that the cats are fine and there's a bottle of good booze in the kitchen waiting for me. I'll be asleep-- in my bed-- by 8:00 PM Pacific.

The wedding went very well. North Georgia is lovely in late spring.

14. the FOB's responsibility to make sure the bridal gown and train-
No, no no! That is what the bride's maids are for! Do not get snookered into anything that's "not your job".

Best wishes to the happy couple. Have a great party! :hi:
