3. Because she was hungry?
Although their diet primarily consists of small invertebrates, large mantises have been observed eating small vertebrates such as lizards, mice, snakes, and small birds such as hummingbirds.

5. We have hummers at the cabin.
You can put your finger right up to the feeder and the birds will land on it while they eat.

8. They are so elusive here. You just can't get near them.
We have tons of them around these parts, but I am in awe every time I see one! But one foot away... That has never happened to me. They usually steer clear.

11. I had a hummie follow me around when I wore a tropical print shirt.
I guess the shirt looked delicious with all the flowers on it!

19. They like bright colors.
Red in particular. My Dil's mom has had them land in her hair before when she wore a red scrunchie to pull her hair up.

We get several around here and we began feeding them a couple years ago. They'll let us know when the feeder needs refilled. It's so cute, they'll go to the feeder then come back and hover for a second and look at us.

20. I just thought of one of the funniest things I've ever seen a hummie do...
I was walking into a mall several years ago and saw a hummie poking at a fake flower on a car antenna... except it wasn't a very real looking flower, it was a pingpong ball painted yellow with white fake petals stuck along the edges. Dang if that little bird didn't keep poking it as if it were real. aawwwww.....

We have so many of them here. I love sitting out late in the day and watching them fight over the feeders we have along the patio. Very entertaining!
