Hypothetical question about driving on the East Coast:
I have to drive somewhere that's 180 miles from where I am. I plan to drive 60 miles per hour.

How long should I plan for my trip?

1. 60? You'll be killed for impeding traffic.

2. 60? What, are you driving in the breakdown lane?
Oh, and do some stretches on your middle finger to get it warmed up. You'll need it!

6. I stand corrected.
I've never lived on the east coast, so maybe I just catch you guys on good days when I visit.

7. You'll get killed going 60mph.
I JUST got home from taking PiGuy to the airport. I never went under 80mph on I-95. Anything less than that, and you have a death wish. :7

10. Define East Coast.
NC could definitely be considered east coast - unless you mean North East.

Also what time of day?

You can easily do Burlington, NC to Wilmington, NC in 3 hours. The speed limit on this route is at least 60 mph all the way through - 65 in most places, a little out of Raleigh to Wilmington and it's up to 70. - It's a 192 mile trip in 3 hours.

Now if you're travelling during peak travel hours through the area between Chapel Hill and Raleigh it can be longer than 3 hours, especially if there's an accident.

Oh and avoid I-85 northbound from Charlotte on race days. That's when you sit in traffic for 2 hours and go 2 miles (if lucky).

Mark.

13. 6 hours, 17 minutes, 45 seconds.
:eyes: -
It totally depends on whether you're driving at rush hour or in off hours and how much of the trip is on a limited access road (turnpikes, interstates, etc.)

15. Well...in MD you'd be going too slow...
where as in VA depending on what road (and whether you're in NOVA (northern) or ROVA (rest of)) you'd be going with traffic, even though most likely the speed limit is 65. Cops love to pull people over for speeding in VA, so now alot of people are paranoid of going the speed limit...*sigh*

16. Well, if you will be going through Georgia,
plan on driving at least 75. You will be tailgated even at 90 mph.
