I tried to get a clear pic the other day of my pond inhabitant but failed. :( He was just lounging in a corner, all legs spread, playing dead man, sometimes moving a bit, but no hassle, just floating there ...

Now I'm not quite up on the various requirements for a doctoral degree but aren't there some programs where you must defend your dissertation in front of an examination board? Or is that only for certain areas of study? IIRC a Phd in Psychology must have an oral exam while a PsyD does not. I have a friend who's finishing her dissertation for her DME, and I can't remember if she has the oral boards or not.

They are really variable, but I did have to do both a public presentation of my research, and an oral defense in front of my committee (4 faculty members). Both of those parts were this past Friday, so I had a fantastic weekend once that was over with! :D
