It's official - we have a defective cat

So here's the scene. My alarm goes off at 5:50 in the morning, and as I reach for the snooze button, Banjo (our little rescue kitty) jumps into bed with me, nuzzles and pets my face, and otherwise tries to prevent me from eaining an extra couple of winks. As I try to tuck in, she starts walking all over the nightstand next to the bed and knocking off my dream journal, cans of cat pheromones and gun cleaner, etc. Okay, okay, I'm up now, and scooping up Banjo to put her on the floor. Nope, she ain't having any of that. She immediately jumps back onto the bed and starts rubbing her face all over my hand. Awwwww.

Now that I'm awake, nature calls. I stumble into the bathroom and sit on the potty, and Banjo follows me in, meows loudly, looks around, and then leaves the bathroom when I open the door for her. A minute later, I hear two loud THUMP! noises against the door, and I open it. Banjo zooms into the bathroom, jumps into the bathtub, runs in circles in the tub, jumps out, takes off for the kitchen at top speed, zooms back into the bathroom, another circuit in the bathtub, jumps out again, cowers between my feet as Axl (our 20-year-old kitty) stares her down with paw upraised so he can smack her, and then Banjo takes off and winds up in a big ol' slapfight with Axl, gets knocked down, sits up again and starts smacking Axl back, then zooms off into the dark somewhere.

Did I mention that Banjo is a very light tortoiseshell kitty?

We may need a tranquilizer gun. Sheesh.

Not good. I just wanted to remove some of the rust and salts, but I'll have to give it a proper cleaning and bluing over the weekend.

I think it was Axl, but I can't decide if the act was an editorial comment about me or the shotgun.

Good idea to get it off of there as fast as possible, but that then leads to another question. WHy do you have your guns out where the cat can pee on them?

Once I get the gun properly cleaned and shiny, I'm going to find a better place for it to reside where the cats can't mess with it just on general safety principles.

It is an antique heirloom gun and you will ruin the patina. Cat pee will too, of course, but bluing is not the answer!

20. There isn't much patina to ruin

When I first got the gun, it had lots of rust spots and was in need of some TLC. I smoothed the barrel with fine steel wool and then blued the whole thing. Looks great now, but I gotta take care of the aftermath of that cat pee.
