Did you ever do poorly in a class you absolute LOVED?
Edited on Tue May-12-09 06:56 PM by Mike 03
It's probably more common to love classes you do or did well in, but there were some I did horribly in that I loved.

Did this ever happen to any of you?

Example one: I wanted really badly to play Clarinet in 5th grade, but my hands were too small, so I could not play high notes (my pinky, in particular, betrayed me), and I was basically humiliated out of band class. It really hurt. Plus, to make matters worse, I had a crush on our teacher. But she was merciless in letting me know that I should leave music.

Example two: German. I really wanted to learn German (this was seventh grade), and I thought I was doing reasonably well, but I was so nervous about the recitations of dialogues that I apparently went astray, and my teacher (yes, another teacher I had a crush on) began to make fun of me. I did go to see her privately and she said she liked me as a person, but that it would be better for me to leave the class.

Pain, pain, pain. Ouch. Painful memories.

2. I got a C in Statistics. Math and I do not get along,
but I found the class really interesting.

4. English.
I didn't know why, but I had the hardest time caring about English class sophomore and junior years. I got bumped to the remedial class and my English grades actually fell further. Then I got a perfect score on the English section of the SAT. The next day I walked into the guidance counselor's office and demanded to be put back in a normal English class or else I was going to withdraw from school. I won that debate. Neither of the English teachers was very happy with that for some reason. Mr. W. was very blunt that he did not want me in his class. Mr. C didn't think I was a very good student. I'd really been better in the Honor's class but that wasn't happening.

Now I have the introspection to realize I was just really bored to be reading the same crap short fiction for the 2nd or 3rd time in an educational setting. I do best when challenged far above my level of actual skill in a field or subject. I had the easiest time in UConn Physics (a HS course offered in combination with the University of Connecticut), a class with a fail rate of 55%.

5. Not that I remember, unless you count the B- I got in one college creative writing class.
I was actually a CW major, and my grades in those courses were mostly A/A-'s, but for this one particular class I guess I was late/absent too much and didn't participate enough. Still enjoyed it though.
