I have to say, "whatta long strange trip's it been." Going from the absolute nadirs (take your pic - 2000 Selection, 9/11,2002 mid-terms, IWR. the invasion/occupation through the 2004 stolen election) and the building highs, starting in 2006, we've experienced an incredible period of US American history in less than a decade. Above all else, it's been an evolutionary period of incredibly expanded participatory democracy. We've leveraged the internets to effectively develop and communicate our messages and organize ourselves, politically, to drive change. From the bottom, up. Information is power...and the collective we is using it. We are winning the battle for progress...but it's just the start of the journey that never ends.
Anyways, a special cheer to DU. :toast:
It's my home on the net. Sure, I visit and comment on other sites; but I always keep coming back here. I love the format, the structure, and the intelligent level of discourse from too many DUers to attempt names. When news breaks...it seems to get here first. I immediately see lots of viewing angles from which to interpret the event and I appreciate great debates that stimulates my thinking and occasionally changes my thoughts and opinions. It works as advertised.
DU is the only site where I make a recurring financial contribution. I value it, like I value Public Radio. It's my homepage.
