An Indiantown man's attempt to fool police lands him behind bars
INDIANTOWN — A man’s attempt to fool deputies into believing he wasn’t the owner of two unruly pitbulls landed him behind bars Thursday afternoon, according to an affidavit.
Deputies were called to the 2000 block of Southeast Washington Street at 3:30 p.m. after the two dogs tried to attack a 93-year-old man in his driveway. A neighbor saved the man from injury by pulling the dogs away.
Witnesses told deputies the dogs lived a few houses down the street and had been roaming the neighborhood.
The affidavit says deputies went to the residence and spoke with Jason Archibald, 29, and a woman not identified in the report. Both denied owning the dogs.
A few minutes later, deputies noticed two pitbulls in the backyard of another house. They quickly discovered the homeowner had been asked to watch the dogs until the unidentified woman at the previous residence returned to pick them up.
Deputies called animal control to remove the dogs, but Archibald arrived and said he was taking the dogs because they were indeed his.
When he was told he couldn’t take the dogs because he previously denied owning them, Archibald brought the dogs out of the backyard by their collars, the affidavit says.
Deputies tasered Archibald after he started to “come at” them with the dogs, according to the affidavit.
He was arrested and booked into the Martin County Jail on one count of resisting arresting without violence.
