Cool Bumper Sticker I Saw: "God Bless The World... NO EXCEPTIONS!"
This atheist thought to himself "well it's about time". Why should their god bless only the United States?

1. Woody Guthrie hated the song God Bless America
found it jingoistic and exclusionary. In response, he wrote This Land Is Your Land, which I personally think is the song that should be sung when people getting to feeling their red white & blue oats.

If I never hear that Kate Smith abomination again, it'll be too soon. What an awful rendition of a sappy damned song.

5. There's a Quaker meeting in Long Island...
distributing "God Bless the Whole World" bumper stickers, with the planet where the flag would be.

Some people out there have been harrassed for having it on their cars.

6. One of my favorite Quakers: Norman Morrison
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 08:24 PM by DemoTex
Doused himself with kerosene and committed suicide in protest of the war in Vietnam on the steps of the Pentagon, within McNamara's view, on 11/5/65. Two weeks later the Ia Drang battles raged. We were in over our heads from the get-go. The press then, as the press would do now, virtually refused to carry the story of this Quaker's ultimate protest against the war.

RIP Norman Morrison, child of the God of the world.

9. Contrast that with the world wide coverage of male Vietnamese
self-immoliants.

a few notable ones... there were many, much to the suprise of Americans, who mostly think there was only one, the 1963 one of Time Magazine cover fame

1963 Thich Quang Duc, 66
the rest of these are all women, and barely made the papers, and these are only the ones who are well known.

1966 Thich Nu Thanh Quang, 24 and Ho Thi Thieu, 19 on the same day
a week later, Thich Nu Vinh Ngoc, 22, and a month after that
Nguyen Thi Van, 17. Through the summer there were more.
Thich Du Dien Dinh, 24, followed one hour later, across the
street by Thich Nu Bao Luan, 20 and later that same day,
Dieu Nu in the same square as the previous two.
1967 Nhat Chi Mai, Thich Nu Tri, Thich Nu Hue, and Thich Nu Thuong
1970 Thich Nu Lien Tap
1971 Nguyen Thi Co and Thich Nu Tinh Nhuan did it together
1972 Thich Nu Dien Han
1974 Thich Nu Du Dieu (which I witnessed)

To what end did these noble women exit the earth? How soon before Iraqi women take up similar protest?

7. Cool
I saw the same thing painted (with shoepolish, I suppose) on the back of someone's windshield coming back from Lollapalooza yesterday- in Houston, of all places. Felt really good seeing something like that...

8. I saw one of those bumper stickers
also a week or maybe two ago, so I can't recall exactly where I was, since I've been doing a lot of driving around the country recently. I wanted one also.
