Creepiest gif ever.

This would scare the shit out of me if I happened upon it.
I know they are owls, but still.

After seeing this .gif I wanted to learn more about the different types of owls so I went here:

Thanks for the nature lesson! :hi:

10. Barn owls...have you ever heard the noises they make?
I used to work on a bird study in college and spent a lot of time checking nest boxes on old farms. These guys nest in old structures and make weird and disturbing noises when you wander near their nests. They hiss and make unbelievable blood-curdling screams that sound like the scream queens in horror movies. You would never guess it was an owl making the noises. One of the students working on our project called the cops when she heard one screaming because she thought it was woman in serious trouble.

Check it out...listen to Common Barn Owl - Typical Call at the link. Turn your volume up to get close to the real effect.

http://www.owlpages.com/sounds.php

Now imagine hearing that right over your head as you walk alone thru a dark run down old barn on some creepy old farm.

28. That is a really cool site.
Thanks for posting it.

I spent time listening to a lot of the calls to see if I could figure out the owl that lives at my in-laws house. I think I have it narrowed down to two. I'm going to let my husband listen to them when he gets home to see what he thinks.

40. Glad you liked it and hope you can ID your owl.
If it turns out to be a large owl like a great horned or great grey, don't walk small dogs at night without a leash. A great horned swooped at our long haired chihuahua while my wife had him out two summers ago right after sunset. They're big tough birds. If she wasn't standing so close to the dog, he might have been dinner.

50. I'm pretty sure that it's the long eared owl.
My in-laws are very careful about their kitty. They always make sure he's inside when it's dark. It's one of those things that you do in coyote country.

36. Yeah, one of the ghost or monster hunter type shows was investigating
Old abandoned ruins in some woods and heard Barn Owl noises. They were positive they had proof of a haunting or monster (whichever they were hunting for). I was roflmao, because they had no clue. Another favorite "weird" sound for out in the woods are Barred Owls. They can have extensive "conversations" among several of the owls, some close, some very distant. Sometimes they sound like monkeys, others strange humanoid voices. I swear that at least one of the "Sasquatch" recordings is barred owls.

39. A friend of mine once swore he had monkeys in the woods
behind his house in Sussex County, NJ. He even went out looking for them a couple times and left bananas out for them. He cited "proof" they were monkeys despite my insistence he was hearing owls by pointing out that "Well, SOMETHING is eating all the bananas I leave out". It turned out to be barred owls making the calls and raccoons & black bears eating the bananas.

51. LOL! We have a farm in North Florida
and clients of mine (I used to board horses) were afraid to stay out here after dark. They swore there was something in the woods watching them and making derisive noises like monkeys hooting. So one evening I went out to check and sure enough, it was the barred owls. I love listening to their conversations during spring evenings - I used to spend a lot of time hiking around in the dark checking pregnant mares so I had lots of chances.

We might and should have barn owls around here but I have never seen or heard them. We used to see great horned owls, but not in the last ten to fifteen years since there has been more development in the neighborhood.

David Letterman used to show this video of some baby Owls scarfing down some mice while the song "The Sun will come out tomorrow" played. The combination of the two was weirdly funny. On the other hand I can't stomach watching a snake eat mice.
