1. Psst....
Jay Cutler isn't going to win you any superbowls.. In fact, I would be genuinely surprised if you guys have a winning record, seeing as he has not had a winning record since High School. Sure, he has a rocket arm, but some guys just do not know how to win. Myself, I'd take a guy like Jeff Garcia over Jay Cutler, because Jeff Garcia has the ability to make everybody around him better and the guy finds a way to win.

6. The woes of the Bears and Vanderbilt were not Cutler's fault
They were on the defense.

Now he's got the Bears' defense.

12. I don't have anybody
The Bears mean nothing to me. But their D is still exponentially better than the Broncos.

14. Last year - true. This year? We're movin' up.
We've retooled the defense with a lot of good players.

We'll see what happens this year's draft.

15. Best of luck
Any prospects as to who the QB will be?

Is Orton a possibility, a probability, or an absolutely not?

Sorry, I'm not up on my Broncos.

10. bullshit.
I'm sorry, but if you are an amazing quaterback as Cutler is hyped up to be, then you have to have the ability to carry your team on your shoulders... Which, incidentally, Cutler has shown absolutely no capacity to do. Blowing a 3 game lead in the AFC West with 3 games to go wasn't a result of the Bronco's shoddy defense, it was an utter collapse by Cutler. I'm not surprised that Daniels wanted to go after Cassel, who proved he has the ability to lead during a time of uncertainty. Either way, the Chiefs just became AFC West contenders. Huzzah!

25. he's got the bears defense, but he's also got the bears offense
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 09:57 PM by fishwax
In Denver he was throwing to two of the best young WRs in the game, and the Broncos 3 and 4 receivers would probably start immediately in Chicago, where the leader in receptions last year was a running back.

I think this trade could actually work out well for both teams, but I also think Cutler has to mature to really be a great QB, and that won't be easy until Chicago has some weapons for him. IIRC, they're also saddled with an aging offensive line. With that in mind, I think Cutler is more vulnerable than either of the teams in this deal. He certainly would have had an easier time developing in Denver than he will in Chicago. They've got a good young tight end, though, and that can certainly help a young QB ...

28. Agreed: The Bears need to get some good receivers...
Otherwise this trade won't make a difference.

4. Too steep a price though.
I love the Bears (Butkus is still my favorite) so I'm glad to see them get a decent QB, but they gave up too much to get him. If Cutler gets hurt they're screwed for years.

9. He's already hurt. He has a pre-existing condition
He has diabetes, which needs to be checked on a regular basis. That said, Chicago is going to be 0-16, and giving away the 1st pick of next year's draft to the Broncos who will gladly take Sam Bradford.

Put down the crackpipe.

They may not go all the way, but they'll win more than they'll lose.

13. Peter King has a great insight on things.
And I enjoy watching him on HBO's football show when he's there.

He always have things to say and theorizes and he's usually right.

7. Not a franchise QB, sorry - he'll be another Ryan Leaf.
Trust me on this.

Good luck - he was good while he was here, but he didn't get us anywhere.

His bizarre behavior through the whole thing was REALLy odd.

Oh, and his diabetes needs to be checked on a regular basis.

11. Cutler just never had the mental balls to be a winner...
The guy clearly has a rocket for an arm, but he is a basket case and has never shown the ability to lead a team to victory. You guys are much better off for getting rid of Cutler.

Four number one picks in two years can net you quite a team.

18. IF, IF, IF
IF he grows up, and IF the coaching staff can keep him on a short leashe, then this could be great for the Bears. They've got some good receivers and a stud running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

19. Great news for the Packers.
Pace is a great lineman, and might single-handedly make the whole offense work, if he can do a fraction of what he did in St Louis. I used to watch the Rams sometimes just to watch Pace.

Cutler has some skills, and he's probably an upgrade for the Bears, but they gave up two first rounders for him, so he's going to have to carry the team for a few years without much chance of improving any other part of the team. This is a guy who threw a hissy fit and demanded a trade because someone dared talk about trading him. He's not a professional, he's not very grown up, and he's all over the place as a QB, and those are the exact opposites of what the Bears need to hit the next level.

Did you hear Brian Urlacher? He was trying not to show how mad he is. "I guess the Bears felt like we needed another quarterback, so they made a move," Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune. "They gave up a lot. Cutler must be pretty good." Ringing endorsement there.

I can't gloat, btw. I'm a Cowboys fan. We are writing the book this year on how to ruin a very talented team. I'm just hoping my other team--Saints--can do something.

Bye bye, Jay. It was nice while it lasted. Enjoy the frozen tundra of the NFC North, and we'll see you in a couple of years.

The have Hester now, and Greg Olson is a good tight end.
