Poll question: Poll: Your Self Esteem
Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 06:31 PM by Mike 03
The reason I'm asking this question is because I'm just curious if anyone has experienced having their self-esteem shrink?

I thought it was supposed to firm up and get stronger as we got older, wiser, more confident, etc...

They lied.

Splat.

In the words of the immortal Hunter S. Thompson:

"Why do they lie to us?"
-- The Curse of Lono

2. I'm 36 and I've had problems with a mental illness in the past
That will really take a toll on your self-esteem. Not only while you are experiencing symptoms, but also after you begin recovery because you have to see doctors and take pills for the rest of your life. So this is a pretty complex question for me.

Right now I feel that I'm at my best since becoming ill 16 years ago, but I have a long way to go. It seems that I've been conditioned to be very hard in myself and I just can't leave that behind for some reason.

3. Mine's gotten worse...
...but I don't think time is responsible at all. The more likely culprit would be my unfortunate experience in the love department.

4. I kinda lost myself as a teen. I was a doormat. When I woke up from that
after the age of 25 it was great. My self esteem grew as did my confidence. All I needed to do was get to know myself. I was a nice person.

6. My Self Esteem Has Gotten Better
I sometimes think that the esteem towards me from others has gone down. But I generally have more confidence in many areas of my life, not all though.
