What does it mean to clean out the refrigerator?
At home it means you throw out spoiled food, clean up messes, and put the good stuff back in.

At work it apparently means that everything is going to be thrown in the garbage, even if its never been opened, or its your dinner. I brought my dinner and caffeine free soda to work, put them in the refrigerator, and when it was time for my long break, the refrigerator was empty. This didn't mean that anyone actually CLEANED it, like wiping it down inside. It just means on this day you don't get to eat dinner and stuff you paid for gets thrown in the garbage.

1. Difference between "clean" and "purge"
It's a workplace thing.

2. Didn't they tell you ahead of time to mark your stuff so it wouldn't
be thrown out? In places I've worked, they usually let you know about the cleaning ahead of time.

3. There was a sign that said the refrigerator would be cleaned
on March 28. Didn't say what time. Didn't say to label your stuff. When I came in there was a bunch of peoples food in there. I thought that cleaning meant throwing out moldy food and not throwing out a new bottle of soda. I saw a coworker with a package of hot dogs on his desk all afternoon... I guess that should have clued me in.
