Actually in my day we typed the commands on punch cards, submitted the stack to the processing queue and got the results back in 30-40 min.

On a good day. On a bad day it would be 12-24 hrs.

That's when accurate typing skills REALLY mattered. No backspace for us. Once the key punched the card, you hoped it was right! LOTS OF DO OVERS.

Heaven forbid if you DROPPED the cards on the way to the computer operator!

...so, while I am 47, the internet did exist and was all the rage. (Windows 3.1 was the shiz-nit at that time.)

Now if it had existed while I was in high school, I'm afraid I'd probably never have come out of my bedroom. Yeah, I was that kid...lol.
