My family was taken hostage this morning...
by a mouse. A HUGH mouse! The kids and I were cowering by the couch while it cowered under the recliner. The cats came and went as they are almost 15 years old and retired and can only give mouse hunting about 2 minutes of their time before they wander off again. Actually, ElderGreenKid thought that it was dead at first so he dragged me out of bed and I tried to scoop it into a paper bag. That was when it flipped out and jumped at me, whereupon I did some flipping out and jumping of my own.

I had a no-kill trap that they got into and back out of again, so hubby brought in teh evil steel spring ones yesterday and one of them got somebody last night. I don't hate mice. I really don't. I think they are so cute when I see them out in the fields. I just don't like them pooping all over my kitchen stuff. x(

Anyway, my captor is heaven-only-knows-where now. Not under the recliner, but not accounted for elsewhere. Every time Pickles (the girl cat) starts yowling and trotting I am cringing because I think she is bringing me her prize. So far, though, all she has brought me are catnip mice, which apparently I am supposed to wiggle around so she can beat them up. Go get the real thing, darn you!!!

Just don't bring it to mommy when you do.

2. But only until they poop on all your dishes and in the silverware drwaer and everywhere else in the
cupboards. I have been leaving my clean dishes in the dishwasher to keep them safe and piling the dirty ones all over the counter until there is enough room again to wash another load. x(

9. Except when you have really long hair....
and they decide to nest in it in the middle of the night while you sleep.

Happened when I was a teenager, the fields behind our house were getting torn up and it sent the mice scattering to people's houses for refuge.
I felt something moving in my hair, and it turned out to be a MOUSE entangled in it.
(shivering at the memory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The next few minutes are still a blur but I remember ending up in my parents' bedroom and jumping onto their bed...

I would scream like a little child in that situation.

4. Cheaper than those sonic rodent repellants. (Actually that was pretty cool. LOL)

7. Those sonic repellants really work.

I have had two of them for the past 3 years. No rats, no mice, no ants, no bugs of any kind. And any rats and mice that are outside are taken care of by the feral cats around my house.

5. I've posted this photo before, but I believe that it's appropriate here.
I also will not tolerate vermin peeing and pooping in my kitchen.

A pre-mortem view.

20. There's no argument that the little guys are cute.
And as long as they stay outside they have nothing to fear from me.

But, come in my home to poop/piss and steal my food, and something bad is going to happen.

11. We had one in here last winter.
My grandpa wanted to put out poison, but I just caught it and set it loose far enough away that it wouldn't wander back in.

13. I got lucky. It was lazy and I saw it just sitting out in the open. So I grabbed
an old cheap not-quite-tupperware container that could be thrown away and scooped it up in there. It didn't even try to scurry away. :P

14. Had one jump into a trash can once. Hubby took it out and released him by a tree, but when he
went back later the poor thing was dead. Probably from fright. :(

17. We thought seriously about it, but had concerns over the cats and had also heard
that they stop working after a while.

Have you noticed any issues with either of those areas of concern?

18. My cats don't seem to notice them. They walk right by 'em,
one even sleeps in front of one. So, maybe they notice but like 'em.

I just know that I haven't had any mice since I got these and started storing dog food in a metal can.

21. That is wicked cool, but so far I only see evidence of them inside the cupboards or on the floor.
No proof yet that they get on the counter or table, prolly cuz the cats scare the crap out of them. LOL
