3. None. Period.
The Beatles are, well, The Beatles.

All who "try" to cover ANY of their songs are fools.
Including Sir Elton. Damn close to blasphemy, IMHO.

5. I used to think that it should be a felony to cover a Beatles song
I have since changed my mind. There are some good covers out there and they get airplay The Beatles (sadly) don't.

But when it comes to the Fab Four, I tend to run on emotion.

17. I won't say anybody's version is better.
That Phish version was fine and dandy.

But my tendencies lie with more, ahem, technical virtuoso-ish guitar players.

So, here is 'Yellow Matter Custard' a superstar cover band featuring Paul Gilbert, Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse, and Matt Bissonette.
It's all about the excitement of the moment. And Gilbert is just an insane player. So is Portnoy.

Here's a tighter and slicker version with better film work at a different time. Gilbert loves George Harrison as a guitarist.

and I LOVE that cover.

So my vote is U2, "Helter Skelter" in the movie "Rattle and Hum."

But it's really hard to pick.

I'm one of those rare idiots that actually liked the movie version of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

22. Can anyone help me with this: "Baby you can drive my car..."
MAD, Mothers against Drunk Drivers, has been running ads behind which is this song, but it does not sounds like the Beatles.

The lyrics are something like, "Baby you can drive my car, I'm going to be a star," but I don't know who is performing the cover.

Would love to know, though.

57. I was right : )
I've heard your music there....Being that you're a Spooky Tooth fan, I clicked the link on your DU profile, and saw the band, and figured it had to be the same one. I submitted a song from my son's band a very long time ago.
It was in the top 40 for a while.....He wasn't all that interested, and politely told me to stop playing it as it messed up the plays on his myspace....I just checked, and the song is still hanging there way down on the list.
His music is really heavy metal....That's what he plays, but it's not what he loves...

Good luck with your music!

peace~

48. Joe Cocker's "W.A.L.H.F.M.F."...but it's gotta be the Woodstock version
I was sitting in Barnes & Noble the other day, thumbing through the new Mojo special issue on 1969, and there was a photo of Cocker at Woodstock. He said basically that he was flown straight to the stage in a helicopter and didn't know that every single member of his band had dropped acid.

The intensity of the Woodstock version eclipses the studio version.
